Leaver has been a cornerstone of many Lipscomb events, but chief among them is the annual Lighting of the Green. He was heavily responsible for the creation of the Christmastime event in 2005 and has been involved in every one since. In an interview with Herd Media after this year’s event, he walked down memory lane, talking about past Lightings, the event’s inception and his favorite memories. We had a desire to plan some kind of a thank-you event for the Lipscomb family and kind…

“You are more than your profession.”

A Tennessee State University professor has been fired from his position in November after he was caught on camera screaming at one of his students. TSU swiftly addressed the incident and terminated Robert Evins Pickard from his position. The now-former TSU professor offered his resignation to the University and is now “retired.” “I deeply regret what happened in class. I lost my temper and did something I should never have done,” said Pickard in his statement to WSMV.  “I have been under pressure lately, and I have been frustrated with students who pay attention to their cell phones and laptops, then wonder why they get low grades. But that does…

Basketball drops Thursday night three-OT thriller

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Kentucky – For the first time since February 10, 2005, a Lipscomb women’s basketball game lasted for at least three overtimes. Just like that fourth-overtime decision in DeLand, Florida, the Bisons came up short. After 55 minutes of basketball, the visitors dropped their second game of the season to the Northern Kentucky Norse by a whopping 101-95 final score. A sparsely-populated Truist Arena, which seats nearly 10,000 fans at its capacity, was treated to the best game of basketball in either team’s recent memory. The contest was complete with physical play, high scoring, nine players fouling out, and a 4-on-5 finish. Unfortunately for the Bisons, six of the…

    Introducing Herd Media

We are Herd Media. As our predecessors in Lipscomb student media have done on multiple occasions since our beginning in 1923, we usher in a new name, identity, and direction for our content nearly a century later in 2022. Lumination Network has officially become Herd Media, Lipscomb’s student media outlet and the flagship offering of the Department of Communication and Journalism. Lumination Network, the previous moniker for Lipscomb’s student media source, saw a transition from a printed, physical newspaper to all-online news content. Rather than casting Lumination aside and starting anew, Herd Media stands to build on and continue the online journalism base that Lumination established. Specifically, Herd Media will…
