Murr makes new legacy after high school stardom
Tommy Murr routinely walks through Lipscomb’s campus as just another normal guy, in and out of Bennett Campus center without being stopped for a picture or an autograph. He walks into the practice facility where he’s just another one of the guys. Life wasn’t always that simple for the Alabama native, though. From day one, basketball was a “huge pillar” of the Murr family. “Growing up it was like every single day there was college basketball on the TV,” Murr said. “We had a really really great bond over that.” Murr’s dad Steve was his high school coach and played collegiate basketball at the University of Tennessee Temple. In addition…

Three takes from basketball exhibition victory
After nearly an eight month hiatus, basketball returned to Allen Arena on Monday night. Lipscomb women’s basketball unofficially opened their season Monday night against Blue Mountain College, a NAIA team that surprisingly took the Bisons to the wire. Although the game does not officially count on either team’s record, it certainly wasn’t uneventful; the Bisons’ preseason debut consisted of a 10 minute scoreboard delay and a pressure-filled finish. Lipscomb was able to hold on in the final seconds to cap off a 72-67 victory over their NAIA opponent, but it wasn’t without a brief scare from a talented Toppers team. The Bisons were led by a starting group of point…

Men’s basketball picked 8th pre-season–why they’re right and why they’re wrong
It may come as a shock to the system for fans of the Purple and Gold to see a disappointing 6th and 8th position in the ASUN Conference Coaches' and Media Polls, respectively. The rankings, announced by the league office earlier this week, represent what would be a season of stagnation rather than a return to recent dominance. What's yet to be seen is how true those rankings will turn out to be come March.

Newfound lunacy around Lipscomb sports
Duke has the Cameron Crazies. Ohio State has The Nuthouse. Texas A&M has the 12th Man. And this year, Lipscomb might just be forming their answer to great student sections at the biggest athletics programs in the nation. Behind a few friends who are new to campus, a simultaneous idea birthed in separate states, and pure passion for the Purple and Gold, an upstart fan base has quickly snowballed into an official student section. It’s complete with watch parties, trips to away games, and dreams of much more. They’re the Lippy Lunatics, and by the looks of things, they’re only getting started. Everything began with two student managers on Lipscomb’s…

Women’s basketball falls just short in Battle of the Boulevard
The Lipscomb women’s basketball team lost a heartbreaking 67-62 decision to the Belmont Bruins in the Battle of the Boulevard Thursday evening at Curb Event Center in Nashville, Tennessee. With the loss, Lipscomb drops to 2-4, with all four of their losses coming away from home. This occasion was a much closer battle than the Bisons’ previous three losses, coming after Lipscomb led 30-23 at halftime. “We’ve had some games where I think we’ve done a little bit of overthinking and a little bit of doubting,” third-year head coach Lauren Sumski said. “We worked really hard to execute our game plan, and this is the first time I’ve looked and…
