    Men’s basketball picked 8th pre-season–why they’re right and why they’re wrong

    Lipscomb Men's Basketball Stock Photo

It may come as a shock to the system for fans of the Purple and Gold to see a disappointing 6th and 8th position in the ASUN Conference Coaches' and Media Polls, respectively. The rankings, announced by the league office earlier this week, represent what would be a season of stagnation rather than a return to recent dominance. What's yet to be seen is how true those rankings will turn out to be come March.

    McDonald’s memories

I remember it like it was yesterday. Sitting in the family van, listening to early 2000s hits, when the golden arches suddenly appeared. I began to salivate, knowing that in just a few moments, I would have a delicious burger, drink, fries, and a toy in my hands. Years later, McDonald’s is giving me and millions of others the chance to relive their finest childhood moments for a pretty hefty price. The idea for this clever marketing ploy was cultivated by Cactus Plant Flea Market, a unique fashion concept created by Cynthia Lu. It has since evolved into a cash cow for McDonald’s, which now includes exclusive clothing and the…

    Smile restores horror category

Warning: This film is R-rated and is not appropriate for all ages. Viewer discretion is advised. October is upon us, which means that spooky season is finally here! Smile, the debut feature film from director Parker Fill, will leave its audience with a feeling of dread as they sleep in their bed. When this film began showing trailers in movie theaters, I was unsure what to expect. Then, Paramount Pictures hired actors to attend sporting events and smile in a terrifying way, which started to raise my interest even more. Would the film be another lackadaisical attempt to satisfy a thirst for horror in October? Or did this film have…

    A guide to “greek life”

College students across the United States are involved at some level with social organizations, especially in Greek life. At Lipscomb, however, Greek life takes a different form than it does at most institutions. With the rushing process recently coming to a close, the following overview of how social clubs, Lipscomb’s take on Greek life, operate is perhaps more useful now than ever. The following list defines some common terms that are consistent between Lipscomb’s social clubs and fraternities and sororities at other schools. Chapter Branch of a sorority/fraternity (in general), with an individual name and sign.  Bid An invitation to join a certain club (sorority or fraternity).  Big/Little  An upperclassmen…

Volleyball prepared for ASUN play after tough schedule

Lipscomb volleyball game against Belmont women.

A suffocating non-conference schedule from Bisons head coach Brandon Rosenthal has Lipscomb ready for the conference slate In two decades as Lipscomb’s head volleyball coach, Brandon Rosenthal has become notorious for creating a non-conference schedule that will challenge his team. Even so, this year’s slate in particular is one he won’t soon forget. The Bisons just wrapped up their last match in non-conference play, falling short short three sets to none while facing the University of Central Florida Knights at a neutral location. UCF, a team receiving top-25 votes, was not the most difficult team they’ve faced ahead of ASUN play. In fact, that may be one of the more…

“I can’t imagine a better place to be in prison”

    Lipscomb diploma

Lipscomb’s LIFE program produces two empowered, prepared graduates Two Lipscomb students from Debra Johnson Rehabilitation Center have finished their coursework for their Associate’s Degree and are awaiting graduation. Molly and Evette, two students from the Lipscomb Initiative for Education, or the LIFE Program, have many mixed emotions about graduating. Looking back at the process of getting into the LIFE Program was not an easy one.  “It was a really big blessing because I had tried three times to get in,” Evette said. “The first time I got a write-up Lipscomb gave me something to strive for. I persevered and finally got in!”  “It’s taken eight years to finish this degree,”…

Boulevard victory escapes men’s soccer again

    Men's Soccer game

Battle of the Boulevard demons continue to haunt Lipscomb as they fail to score against their archrivals NASHVILLE – Over the past three and a half years, a generation of Lipscomb fans has watched their men’s soccer team accomplish just about everything imaginable for a mid-major program. The Bisons have packed Lipscomb Soccer Complex on countless occasions, reached the National Tournament, knocked off multiple top-25 teams, and even reached a #18 ranking nationally themselves. But the one thing they’ve never managed in this golden age of Bisons soccer is the holy grail for any Lipscomb sport–laying claim to the Boulevard and beating Belmont. There have been infamous almosts, from the…

Women’s soccer’s slow start (and why we shouldn’t be worried yet)

What do you get when you take an experienced, conference-winning squad, subtract no starting players, add two marquee transfers, and throw in three players who missed most of last season for injury? Just as many losses as wins, as of right now. Lipscomb fans might look at the 1-3 record their women’s soccer team put together in the first four matches of 2022 and feel that something doesn’t add up. Even after two wins and ten goals in the past week to bump them up to 3-3, there seems to be concern for the way things have gone, at least on paper. That said, there’s plenty of reason to look…
