Bisons athletics are booming midway through conference play

Attending sporting events and cheering on your team is always a good time, it’s even more fun when they’re winning. Right now, Lipscomb is doing just that. Not just one, but many of Lipscomb’s sports teams are ranked first in the ASUN right now. So how good are these teams? Let’s break it down. The volleyball team is undefeated in conference play with an unblemished record of 4-0. Three of the four conference games they won were on the road. The Bisons are on a six game winning streak, defeating Abilene Christian and Belmont before diving into conference play. Head coach Brandon Rosenthal‘s squad has loads of depth and one…

Lipscomb volleyball wins Battle of the Boulevard on emotional night

For the tenth straight time, the Lipscomb Bisons volleyball got the better of Belmont with a 3-0 sweep of the Bruins. Tuesday night at Allen Arena was much bigger than the Battle of the Boulevard, however. It was a night to remember Michael Currin, a fun-loving person who was a good friend of senior defensive specialist Delaney Smith. Currin, who passed away on September 21, 2020, at the age of 19, was honored during the pregame ceremonies last night. Before the first serve, a moving video about his life came on. It talked about how his father had died of a heart attack in the years before his death and…

Volleyball season recap: what to expect next year

The 2022 Lipscomb volleyball season has come to an end after a tight loss to the Liberty Flames in the semifinal of the ASUN Tournament on November 18th.  The match could not have been closer, with the game going the distance to a fifth set. Liberty finished the game off with a kill from former Bison Kamryn Bacus, with the final score of the fifth set being 15 to 13.  This Bisons squad was always one who had plenty of potential to grab a very high seed in the tournament, but they found themselves in the middle of the ASUN pack in the fourth spot. What exactly led Lipscomb to…

Bass battles for both sides of the boulevard

It’s not very often an athlete is able to partake in both sides of a rivalry, but for Kailee Bass, the story is different. Bass, a fifth-year senior middle blocker on Lipscomb’s volleyball team, has had the experience of getting to play for both sides of the geographically closest rivalry in all of college sports, with roughly two miles separating the campuses. Flipping her blue and red colors for a purple and gold jersey was never in Bass’ intentions. In fact, it was a long process for her to become a Bruin in the first place. “I actually went to nine different schools before I liked a school,” Bass said.…

    Volleyball victorious in finale

FLORENCE, Alabama – The Lipscomb volleyball team outdid North Alabama Sunday 3-0 at Flowers Hall in the final match of the 2022 regular season. With the win and results elsewhere, the Bisons clinched the fourth seed in next weekend’s eight-team ASUN Conference Tournament. Freshman setter Sophia Hodepohl paced the Bisons with 41 assists, adding three kills, five digs, and three blocks. The Mason, Ohio native has been the lone setter on Lipscomb’s roster since a season-ending injury to senior setter Ashleigh Albert. “It’s been a lot of work,” Hudepohl said. “I miss [Ashleigh Albert] and I’m so sad she’s hurt right now, but being the only setter in the gym…

    Volleyball suffers another straight-set loss

The Lipscomb volleyball team suffered their second loss at home to ASUN competition as they lost to Jacksonville State in three sets.  The Bisons lost the first set 25-22 after a back-and-forth set where the Gamecocks were able to prevail. The second set was a similar story as Jacksonville State took a 6-0 scoring-run after the Bisons earned the first two points. A comeback attempt by the Bisons was not enough as they lost the second set 25-19. Right-Side hitters Addi Pelham and Logan Gish led the Bisons in kills after the two sets with nine and eight kills respectively. Kailee Bass, the fifth-year player from Aurora, Illinois, led the…

Freshman DiVita sits at center of volleyball’s future

As just a freshman, Jada DiVita has already cemented herself as a key piece of Brandon Rosenthal’s team for years to come.  DiVita isn’t new to early success, though. The Michigan native was a four-year starter at Grosse Point South High School and was named all district along with all region throughout all four seasons of her high school career. DiVita was also part of four district championship teams throughout her high career.  The talented freshman has been around sports for her entire life. DiVita describes her family as a hockey and volleyball family; Jada’s mom, Janeil, played college volleyball at Lake Superior State University and coached Jada for her…

Transfer portal provides plethora of players

For those who follow athletics, the transfer portal has recently become a well-known phrase. Brought to life in October 2018, the newly-instated NCAA rule allows college athletes to place their name into a “portal” which allows athletes to transfer to a new school and athletics program. This process of using the portal has become wildly popular to the tune of over 9,000 students entering the portal last year alone, causing a variety of effects on college athletics. On Lipscomb’s campus, this is no different. Many key contributors on Lipscomb’s fall sports teams have used the transfer portal to find their way to Lipscomb and represent the Bisons. The road to…
