Lipscomb’s “Gift to Nashville”
Lighting of the Green is an annual Lipscomb event marking the start of the Christmas season. It has been a popular tradition at Lipscomb for 18 years, extending its reach not only to those affiliated with Lipscomb but also citizens of the Nashville area. Lighting of the Green has always been a free event where all are welcomed with open arms. It includes festivities for all ages such as family pictures with Santa, Merry Marketplace, and performances from Amy Grant, Lipscomb choirs, and other special guests. “The Lighting of the Green is Lipscomb’s gift to Nashville,” Dr. Jimmy McCollum, Lipscomb alum and Professor of Communication, said. Division, debate and David Lipscomb
This is America- and there’s no denying that there is division. Within the state, the city, the church, and our school, there is disunity. Whether politically, socially, or economically, people find themselves “drawing the line.” Someone might find it difficult or even impossible to hold a conversation with another person who believes something different, says something triggering, or does something that they do not agree with. On October 17th, an organization called Turning Point Lipscomb screened “The Greatest Lie Ever Sold,” a film by conservative commentator Candace Owens about the killing of George Floyd and the rise of Black Lives Matter. Marketing week highlights important skills for students
Last year Lipscomb’s AMA traveled to the international conference for the first time and returned not only having placed in every category they competed in but, according to club’s president Jason Southall, with inspiration for expanding their club. AMA, short for American Marketing Association, is a largescale organization providing connections and resources for “marketers and academics” within the business community. Marketing Week, which took place from Oct. 19-26, is one of the fruits of the Lipscomb chapter’s inspiration.

Compassion fatigue: “eventually the foundation will collapse”
Compassion is the concern for another person’s suffering, but according to Dr. Cayce Watson, we only have so much to give. Dr. Watson has been a social work practitioner for more than 20 years and a professor at Lipscomb University for 12. Watson suspects she may be the first person with a doctorate in Social Work to teach at the University. In the late 90s, she began her work in behavioral health and substance misuse where she provided counseling and eventually found her passion for research. A night in which Jacob Ognacevic started as Lipscomb’s sixth man ended with him as the hero, capping off a magical night by sending Lipscomb’s student section onto the court to Prince’s “Purple Rain” with a game-winning layup. After six painful losses in a row and 1,806 days since Lipscomb’s last victory against Belmont, Lennie Acuff and his team finally did it for the first time in his tenure, beating former Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander’s Belmont Bruins 77-75. Bisons buoyed in advance of ASUN final
By any metric, 2022 has been a highly successful year for the Lipscomb men’s soccer program. Every individual ASUN Conference superlative award was clinched by Lipscomb personnel this season, and the Bisons finished their regular season with only two losses and two draws. In the process, the Bisons lost only one conference game and earned a 12th-place ranking nationally. The Bisons ground out a 1-0 win against FGCU this Monday to claim their spot in the ASUN Final Saturday, beating one of the two teams they had lost to during the regular season. CHICAGO, Illinois – It was clear to the audience that this was not their first rodeo. At a high-stakes competition in Chicago, Lipscomb students competed in a collegiate version of “Shark Tank”. Two students had clawed their way out of a pool of 600 to the top 25 over the past year. Now it was the real deal. The final competition. Bisons Weekend to feature camaraderie, connection
Lipscomb University will host Bisons Weekend, a rebrand of Homecoming and Parents Weekend, November 11 and 12. One of the weekend’s highlights is Bisons Weekend Parade, which will feature students, faculty and staff across campus. All are welcome to watch the parade from wherever they choose. Activities for current students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community will be available. These include Bisons athletic events, a 5K run, and a special chapel service. Students told to vacate off-campus housing
It was a typical day for five Lipscomb students when they received notice they were “overcrowding” the home they are renting. What followed the notice was an ultimatum to “correct the situation” or vacate the property within a few days. Shelby Bratcher, a senior Corporate Marketing major from Hendersonville, TN, splits rent with her four roommates to make their living situation, as students, feasible. “Not really knowing where we’re gonna live long term was not scary just nerve-wracking.
