Men’s Soccer wins its third straight ASUN conference tournament championship
Lipscomb University men’s soccer won its third straight ASUN Championship Saturday, defeating Bellarmine 1-0. The Bisons were charging early, but it was not easy. Excellent goal protection by Bellarmine’s Lukas Tharp prevented a set of goals early from Malachi Jones. That included a saved penalty kick by Tharp to keep the Bisons from catching an early lead. Solid defending by Lipscomb set them up to take a 1-0 lead in the 40th minute. Jones was able to find Javanne Smith, who then flicked it into the net. In the 75th minute, the Bisons found trouble. Juan Carlos Rodriguez received a red card, putting the Bisons down a man and having to go…

Lipscomb volleyball wins Battle of the Boulevard on emotional night
For the tenth straight time, the Lipscomb Bisons volleyball got the better of Belmont with a 3-0 sweep of the Bruins. Tuesday night at Allen Arena was much bigger than the Battle of the Boulevard, however. It was a night to remember Michael Currin, a fun-loving person who was a good friend of senior defensive specialist Delaney Smith. Currin, who passed away on September 21, 2020, at the age of 19, was honored during the pregame ceremonies last night. Before the first serve, a moving video about his life came on. It talked about how his father had died of a heart attack in the years before his death and…

The lineage of Lou: The long-standing history of the Lipscomb Bisons’ mascot
There’s many traditions to a sporting event that just wouldn’t feel the same if they weren’t there. Remember when there were no fans at the games during COVID? Even though the action on the field, court, or pitch remained the same, the atmosphere of these games was’t the same compared to what we are used to. There was no roaring crowd of students there to cheer on their team. No cheerleaders chanting “Let’s Go Bisons!” or performing during timeouts. And no energetic mascot roaming the arena to have fun with fans to help keep things entertaining in breaks of the action. The game-day experience just isn’t the same without a…

Tyler Jordan: The future of Lunacy
The Lippy Lunatics are back and in a dramatic fashion. This student section started a year ago. After traveling down to Kennesaw State last year for the ASUN tournament basketball game and being just as loud as the home crowd, everyone knew this student section was different. This year is already off to a hot start. The lunatics traveled to Lexington, Kentucky, for a men’s soccer game, and cheered in the Kentucky Wildcats stadium. However, what happens when the older generation of lunatics graduates and moves on? What happens to the next generation of lunatics? Tyler Jordan, a freshman from Ventura, California, is ready to take the reins of “Lunacy”…

The unorthodox path: 3 Lipscomb athletes who went unique routes
In the world of sports, there are many times when paths aren’t linear. Unlike professions that feature more orthodox routes, being an athlete can be an endeavor fraught with many trials and tribulations before the pinnacle of a career can appear. Examples include the journey from Division III basketball to the NBA by Miami heat guard Duncan Robinson or Simone Biles winning five medals in the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. We love sports because of the special moments and journeys like the ones above. However, these stories go far beyond the national level. Stories like these can even appear at Lipscomb, with three featured in this article. These…
