Graduating to the jungle of Madagascar
Graduating this semester is Ashlyn Korpak, a senior Environmental and Sustainability Sciences major from Grand Rapids, MI. Like many seniors, she is about to embark on a new adventure. However, this one is taking her 9,185 miles away to the island of Madagascar. There, Ashlyn will begin her 27-month-long journey with the Peace Corps, working in the environmental and agricultural sectors. “As an agricultural volunteer, I’ll be working with farmers and gardeners in the community to learn from them and share with them the techniques I learn from the Peace Corps for farming in a place that in already experiencing the effects of climate change,” Ashlyn’s journey as an environmentalist…

Student Government Association elections just wrapped for this semester solidifying the new officers for the 2023-24 school year. Lipscomb’s SGA helps to keep student morale, advocate for concerns of students, and promote academic, social, and spiritual growth with Christian values and principles of the university. Our new SGA Vice President is Janeyah Anderson, a junior Law, Justice and Society & Urban Development and Policy double major from Hendersonville, TN. Is it “times up” for TikTok?
In March of this year, Tennessee state lawmakers passed a bill banning the use of TikTok on wifi networks run by public universities and colleges. Republican Gov. Bill Lee is expected to sign the bill. In December, passed separate legislation to block TikTok from government-owned devices. Tennessee is one of at least 25 states to ban TikTok on government-owned devices due to fears surrounding the app being a national security threat. Renovations possible for the SAC
The student athletic center, also known as the “SAC”, here at Lipscomb University has always been a staple building on campus. But, according to Kegan York, director of campus recreation, we now have more students than recreation center. “We’ve definitely outgrown our space.” Kegan York Built in 1994, the SAC didn’t have any renovations done until 2011, which moved the weight room from where the Freshens is now to where the weight room now lives. It also got repainted. And in 2019, they added what York called the Rogue Room, as pictured here. It’s more of a “crossfit” type of room than a traditional weight room. Also, last summer, the…

Singarama performances ‘sparkle’ on opening night of Diamond Anniversary
On what was a beautiful night for song and dance in Nashville, students, faculty, and other members of the Lipscomb community came together for the opening night of Lipscomb’s annual “Singarama” event. After months of commitment, preparation, and anticipation, students participating in the event were finally able to see all of their hard work come to fruition; performing in front of what was a packed crowd inside of Collins Alumni Auditorium. Included in the massive audience was Lipscomb graduate (1965) Coba Craig, who came up with the idea for Singarama six decades ago while he was a student. The theme of this year’s event was diamonds. On Tuesday they picked up where the left off with #4 Vanderbilt, this time on their turf, after last weeks game was postponed. Lipscomb lost to Vanderbilt 1-11. They start their three-day series against Liberty on Friday. The Softball team lost the series against Jacksonville 0-3, as well as their mid week game against Chattanooga 1-3. Singarama celebrates 60 years
The Diamond Anniversary 1964 was an important year. The Beatles took the United States by storm, the fight for racial equality was in full swing, and our military took its first shots in the Vietnam War. Here at Lipscomb University, a new tradition was born. It would become an annual event called Singarama. Singarama is a 2-day performance where the Social Clubs (Lipscomb’s version of Fraternities and Sororities) and other students sing, dance, and entertain. These shows are written, directed, and staged by the students. It’s a competition. The performances are judged on choreography, sets and props (visuals), vocals, entertainment, and the overall theme. Mass shooting at private school in Green Hills near Lipscomb
Update 3:45 p.m.: The shooter has been identified as Audrey Hale. She is believed to be a former student at the school, but that has not been confirmed at this time. Update 12:53 p.m.: Metro Nashville PD identified the shooter as a 28-year-old Nashville woman. Update 12:30 p.m.: Seven are confirmed dead, this includes three students, three staff members, and the shooter. The shooter had been identified as a female.
