After 23 years, Volleyball Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal to retire
When one thinks of Lipscomb Volleyball, Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal comes to mind. The two are strongly tied together – but they won’t be for much longer. After 23 seasons as Lipscomb Volleyball’s head coach, it’s no surprise that Rosenthal is one of the cornerstones of the program. Yet late in the afternoon of Jan. 7, his retirement was announced to the Lipscomb community. Lipscomb WSOC Head Coach Kevin O’Brien to coach for Mississippi State
This afternoon, Mississippi State women’s soccer announced that Lipscomb women’s soccer Head Coach Kevin O’Brien would be coming to coach for the Bulldogs. O’Brien recently led the Bisons to their second consecutive ASUN Championship victory this season. He also took them back to the NCAA Tournament, where they beat Mississippi State 1-0 in the first round. O’Brien also won the ASUN Coach of the Year award for the 2025 season, making it his fifth career ASUN Coach of the Year. After 14 seasons coaching women’s soccer at Lipscomb, O’Brien is the winningest head coach in program history. He boasts more than 150 career victories, having reached that milestone this season.…

Lipscomb expands support as student food insecurity rises
As federal SNAP benefits remain limited, the conversation about food insecurity is growing. Dr. Autumn Marshall, chair of Lipscomb’s Department of Nutrition and a registered dietitian, said people underestimate how common food insecurity is on college campuses. “I was really surprised when I did some digging on this, that about 19% of college students experience some level of food insecurity,” Marshall said. “Typically, the ones who live on campus, that’s not a problem because they’re required to have a meal plan. SGA senators partner with Urban Promise to host “Race for Refuge”
Over 100,000 foreign-born citizens call Nashville and Davidson County home, making up over 15% of Nashville’s population. Many are refugees who had to flee their homes due to persecution, conflict or violence. Urban Promise was founded by Jonathan Sheahen, a former Lipscomb Academy teacher and principal and his wife, Shawna. Their mission is “to show the love of Jesus to refugees by helping them heal, learn and direct their own future for good.” On Saturday, Urban Promise hosted its 4th annual “Race for Refuge,” an event for the Nashville community to experience a simulated refugee journey. Bisons off to face Bulldogs in NCAA Tournament
The Lipscomb women’s soccer team and their coaches, family and friends gathered in Allen Arena’s Hall of Fame room today to hear their place in the NCAA Tournament. Having won the ASUN Tournament just this Sunday, beating North Florida 3-0 to become back-to-back ASUN Champs, the Bisons won an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament. The Selection Show would determine where that bid placed them, and what team they would play. Bomb threat against Lipscomb diverted by Lipscomb Security team
Lipscomb students might take the security team for granted. But even though jump-starting cars is part of their job, Security’s primary role is to protect students’ lives every day. Last Tuesday, this was especially apparent. Karissa Hamlet, age 25, was arrested for posting a bomb threat against Lipscomb on Facebook; the arrest was made after Lipscomb security alerted the Nashville Metro Police about the threat. Hamlet attached her threat to an article about how Lipscomb Academy handled protests following a memorial for Charlie Kirk. Lipscomb Athletic Director Philip Hutcheson announced this morning that Lipscomb had found their new men’s basketball head coach, in former Trevecca Nazarene University Head Coach Kevin Carroll. With former Lipscomb Head Coach Lennie Acuff’s decision to accept the head coaching position at Samford University and return to Alabama, Lipscomb began a search for a new head coach for their men’s basketball team. MBB Head Coach Lennie Acuff announces he will leave Lipscomb
Lipscomb announced this morning that men’s basketball Head Coach Lennie Acuff has accepted the head coaching position at Samford University. President Candice McQueen said that Acuff informed the university of his plans just this morning. The decision was driven by his desire to be nearer to family during this season of life, according to Acuff. The opportunity to coach at Samford allows him to return to his home state of Alabama and be nearer to his children and wife’s aging parents. Students forced to shelter as campus floods
Lipscomb University faced yet another set of evacuations Wednesday night, as several tornadoes wreaked havoc in the area. Round after round of severe weather struck the state of Tennessee last night and at least four people are dead, while over two dozen are hospitalized with weather-related injuries. Fortunately, none of those were Lipscomb students, as one tornado came close, but eventually all swung clear around campus safely. Four tornadoes touched down Wednesday night, one of them running up Granny White Pike for a while and coming close to campus.
