Ja Morant – The Memphis Grizzlies climb to the top
The NBA Western Conference is stacked, but one team has been slowly climbing its way to the top, the Memphis Grizzlies. Over the past month, Memphis has found itself 9-5 and ranked fourth in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies are led by NBA all-star Ja Morant. Entering his fourth season with Memphis, Morant has received an All-Star selection, a Rookie-Of-The-Year Award and a Most-Improved-Player Award. This year, the Murray State graduate is averaging 28.8 points, 7 assists and 6 rebounds in the past 12 games of the 2022-2023 season. “He has already proved that he is the MVP candidate so far,” Lipscomb junior Brandon Bigsby said. Men’s basketball beats Navy in unfamiliar fashion
Lipscomb entered Allen Arena on Wednesday with something to prove, and they did just that in an 82-77 win against a talented Navy Midshipmen team. In a rare morning matchup, Lipscomb Academy students from Kindergarden through 5th grade were given a field trip to walk across campus and cheer on the Bisons. The win moves Lipscomb to a 5-2 record and gives them an undefeated 4-0 mark at Allen Arena on the year. The Bisons were led by 18 points each from sophomores Jacob Ognacevic and Derrin Boyd along with 14 from senior center Ahsan Asadullah. Women’s basketball tops WKU
BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky- Following a nine-day hiatus from the court, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team defeated the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers 84-66. Whether it was the turkey from Thanksgiving or the relaxing trip to Hawaii two weekends prior, Lipscomb was ready for the challenge. From the opening tip to the end of the first quarter, the Bisons couldn’t miss. The team converted on a whopping 62.5% of their threes and a sizzling 78.6% from the arc. The squad would finish the quarter with a 27-15 advantage, but the Toppers fought back in the second. WKU tried to make the necessary adjustments with a change in defensive scheme. Volleyball season recap: what to expect next year
The 2022 Lipscomb volleyball season has come to an end after a tight loss to the Liberty Flames in the semifinal of the ASUN Tournament on November 18th. The match could not have been closer, with the game going the distance to a fifth set. Liberty finished the game off with a kill from former Bison Kamryn Bacus, with the final score of the fifth set being 15 to 13. Lipscomb falls in Friday night thriller
SOUTH BEND, Indiana – Following an emotional, hard-fought 77-75 win on Monday night against Belmont in the Battle of the Boulevard at Allen Arena, the Lipscomb Bisons fell 66-65 to their ACC foe, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish at Purcell Pavilion in South Bend, Indiana. From the get-go, the team got off to a hot start, building off the momentum of Monday. Bass battles for both sides of the boulevard
It’s not very often an athlete is able to partake in both sides of a rivalry, but for Kailee Bass, the story is different. Bass, a fifth-year senior middle blocker on Lipscomb’s volleyball team, has had the experience of getting to play for both sides of the geographically closest rivalry in all of college sports, with roughly two miles separating the campuses. Flipping her blue and red colors for a purple and gold jersey was never in Bass’ intentions. Last night, the Lipscomb Bisons faced off against the Belmont Bruins in the historic men’s basketball Battle of the Boulevard. The Bisons lost to the Bruins in 2021. Students across Lipscomb’s campus were hoping for a different outcome this year. And if not that, then at least a closer game. The Bisons, however, did not disappoint.

A night in which Jacob Ognacevic started as Lipscomb’s sixth man ended with him as the hero, capping off a magical night by sending Lipscomb’s student section onto the court to Prince’s “Purple Rain” with a game-winning layup. After six painful losses in a row and 1,806 days since Lipscomb’s last victory against Belmont, Lennie Acuff and his team finally did it for the first time in his tenure, beating former Lipscomb head coach Casey Alexander’s Belmont Bruins 77-75. Women’s basketball powers past Delta Devilettes
The Lipscomb Women’s Basketball Team defeated the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils by a final score of 67-45 Monday evening. Aleah Sorentino, a redshirt sophomore transfer from Ole Miss, started the first quarter off strong with six points after making three of her first four shots. Sorrentino would score on a layup to take a 13-7 Bisons lead at the end of the quarter. Both teams struggled with turnovers in the second quarter, and the Bisons were unable to separate themselves from the Delta Devils.
