Lipscomb Bisons’ late run seals victory in gritty battle against TSU Tigers

The Bisons come into this game after an emotional 72-71 loss against rival Belmont. Today’s game was not much different. The Bisons took the win within the final minutes of the game thanks to Will Pruit and Joe Anderson’s stellar performance.

Tennessee State asserted their dominance early. The Tigers were very physical and pushed the ball well in transition early. This sped up Lipscomb and forced turnovers. The Tigers forced 10 turnovers and scored 11 points because of that. Defensively, the Bisons’ mixed it up with a duo of 212 and 131 zone packages to keep TSU out of the paint. Unfortunately, it allowed TSU to go 6-18 from three in the first half. Lipscomb was playing from behind the entire first half. The Bisons did have several scoring runs, but the Tigers would stop any momentum. At halftime, Lipscomb’s Joe Anderson was leading the team with 9 points. TSU’s highest scorer at the half was Jaylen Jones with 12 points.

The second half was the complete opposite. Lipscomb started to be the more physical team. TSU was not the same as they were in the first half. The Tiger’s shots were not falling. The Bisons’ were controlling the pace and that allowed them to settle down and get quality shots. Lipscomb took an 8-point lead, but the Tigers were able to climb back. Shots began falling in favor of the Tigers letting them recapture momentum to make a final run within the final 5 minutes in the game with a 67-60 lead. The Bisons were not going away yet. A 12-2 run by Lipscomb gave them the lead 72-69 with 50 seconds remaining in the game. From there, the Biosn took the win within the final minutes.
