Singarama ‘adds a whole new level of community’ for Lipscomb campus

The 59th Annual Singarama event had looked different the last two years. The pandemic halted the 2020 competition, and last year’s event was held without an in-person audience. The event is back in full force this year with the theme being Story-time. Academy football defeats CPA in BlueCross Bowl, claims state title

CHATTANOOGA – The Lipscomb Academy varsity football team won the BlueCross Bowl Division II-AA Tennessee State Championship over the Christ Presbyterian Academy Lions 27-0 Thursday morning at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga. Senior quarterback Luther Richesson led the Mustangs to their first Division II-AA state title, going 16-for-18 in the air for 147 yards, a touchdown and an interception. Broome, Academy football sweep away CPA demons
The Lipscomb Academy varsity football team beat Christ Preparatory Academy 38-0 at the Lipscomb Academy Football Stadium Friday night. Both teams came in with perfect district records and only one loss each on their resume. The one team to beat both sides going in was Oakland, the top-ranked team in the state of Tennessee across all divisions. On a night with 16 penalties for 179 yards, 9 of which went against the Mustangs for 119 yards, the game was hard-fought but never particularly competitive. Lipscomb Academy has addressed the controversy sparked by head football coach Trent Dilfer’s actions Friday night during a game against Independence High School. A viral video surfaced after the game on Friday night that has amassed over 11.4 million views on TikTok, a popular video sharing service. The video shows head coach and former Super Bowl-winning NFL quarterback Dilfer grabbing and pushing his starting tight end, Beau Dawson. Academy football wins again amid Trent Dilfer controversy
On a night that has now become more well-known for a viral video than a dominant performance on the field, the Lipscomb Academy Mustangs football team beat the Independence Eagles 62-7. The Mustangs had control from the first moment Friday night at home. Senior running back Alex Broome earned three of his six touchdowns on the night in the first quarter alone. Those three touchdowns alongside an interception returned for a score put Lipscomb ahead 27-0 after one period of play. Dr. Candice McQueen describes her return to Lipscomb as “very satisfying.” Her appointment to succeed Randy Lowry as president of the university brings her back to the campus where she has served as an academic leader as senior vice president and dean of the university’s College of Education. Lipscomb Academy starts season in pandemic on new turf
The Lipscomb Academy football program will not have as many changes as it did a season ago, but there are some noticeable differences. Coming off of a transformation season with a new coach, the Mustangs are facing a season no one expected. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Metro schools will not be allowed to compete until after Labor Day, causing the Mustangs to make a sudden schedule change.
