Most would think that an opposing team putting up between two and four runs in the very first inning would be a death knell for the home team. Yet on both Friday and Saturday, Lipscomb baseball proved that wasn’t the case. Facing off against Austin Peay, Lipscomb brought home the victory in both of their first two games against the Governors. Both games, however, were a battle. Lipscomb Baseball anticipates exciting season with promising roster
Lipscomb baseball is kicking off its season on Valentine’s weekend this year, taking to Ken Dugan field for the team’s opening series against the Dayton Flyers. The Bisons’ roster is made up of 38 players, 17 of whom are new to the team. Herd Media spoke to two of the returning players, one transfer, one freshman and head coach Jeff Forehand about the upcoming season. 2026 and then: Ken Dugan Field commemorated 35 years ago
Former players stood in a long line along the third-base line in 1991 as Lipscomb formally named its new baseball field for Coach Ken Dugan, honoring the coach who shaped generations of Bison players. Dugan coached at Lipscomb from 1960 to 1996, winning more than 1,000 games and leading the Bisons to NAIA national championships in 1977 and 1979. The prior home for Lipscomb baseball had been Onion Dell, where the Ezell Center now stands. The 35th anniversary anniversary is a reminder of who Dugan was – a coach whose character, faith and compassion shaped Lipscomb baseball as much as his skills did as a coach. For the Dugan family,…

Tucked in a worn brown file deep inside Lipscomb’s athletic archives sits a faded photograph: a young right-handed pitcher in a purple uniform, glove raised, eyes locked onto the catcher. The edges of the image are cracked with age. The name on the back is written in ballpoint pen – Bo McLaughlin, 1970s. Most students walking past the archives have no idea the man in the picture was the first Bison ever to sign with a Major League Baseball team—or that decades later, at 72, he is remembered as much for a terrifying injury that nearly ended his life. Bisons march back from 6-run deficit to win in extras
Lipscomb baseball had their first midweek game of the season, against Evansville, on February 18. It was a rollercoaster that eventually ended on a high, as the Bisons staged a thrilling comeback in the bottom of the ninth, to win 11-10 in extra innings. The Bisons started off strong, leading the Aces 3-1 by the end of the second inning. Energy was high in the dugout as the Bisons held their lead until the sixth inning. The eighteen minute and thirty-seven second video documentary captured more than just the story of the iconic Nashville Sounds’ scoreboard — it captured the cherished memories of players, coaches, and the people of Nashville. The Grand Ole Guitar is more than just any old scoreboard. As interviewee and former Sounds pitcher R.A. Dickey said in the video, “in my mind it’s the Nashville landmark. If I could put in my backyard, I would try, that’s how much I think it means to this city.” The Lipscomb University School of Communication team poured hundreds of hours into the video documentary project. Lipscomb Baseball’s NCAA Tournament path has been revealed; here’s everything you need to know
After their ASUN championship victory against FGCU on Sunday, the Lipscomb Bisons won the ASUN Tournament Championship and clinched an automatic bid for the NCAA Tournament. This will be the third time in program history that Lipscomb has made the NCAA Tournament and is the first time since 2015. Though the Bisons knew that their place in the tournament was secured, what they didn’t know was who they would be playing against or where. A wild weekend series – Lipscomb baseball versus Liberty photo gallery
This past weekend, the Lipscomb Bisons faced off against the Liberty Flames in a three-day baseball weekend series, March 31st through April 2nd. The Bisons beat the Flames in Friday’s game 2-1, they beat the Flames in Saturday’s game 8-7, and though they lost Sunday’s game 4-9 they won the series against the Flames, 2-1. This was the first time the Bisons had beat the Flames for a series win in program history.
