On Friday, students and staff had the opportunity to recognize their food service workers for “National Food Service Worker Day.”  Throughout September 25, a poster was displayed in the Lipscomb Cafe where students could write special thank you sticky notes to the food service workers. Some messages left by students include, “Nothing beats the cafe!!!” or “I never miss a day to eat lunch! Bid night — a time when all potential and current sorority and fraternity members come together to welcome pledges — was a time for excitement for all those that participated this year. Lipscomb University is consistently involved in the Social Club experience, and this year, the eight social clubs were extremely excited to welcome their newest members. In order to reach bid night, potential new members (PNMs) had to attend rush around, open rush, and closed rush. On the 25th anniversary of the national tragedy of Sept. 11, 2001, Lipscomb University created a whole-day program to honor the lives lost on the day. The memorial began with an opening ceremony directed by Lipscomb’s Director of Veteran Services Samuel Lynn. The ceremony included a performance of “God Bless America” by Lipscomb’s Concert Choir.  Available during the day were posters displaying the history of 9/11. Students from the university and academy visited this exhibit, alongside President Candice McQueen and other staff members. Change-maker, advocate, and inspiration–these are just a few of the words Lipscomb students use to describe Dolly Parton. Tuesday, news of Parton’s passing spread across campus. shocking students. From fashion students inspired by her outfits, to music arts majors who learned about country music from her, Parton played a huge role in the lives of Lipscomb students.  Parton had a special place in the hearts of students and professors.
