Lipscomb Academy performs The Little Mermaid for Spring Musical

The Lipscomb Academy theater program performed the Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” for their annual high school musical. Behind the scenes, the program navigated exciting technical challenges, new cast members and a new staff.  The musical featured one of Lipscomb’s first Sophomore Leads, Charlotte Payne as Ariel, and new student Kyle Varenkamp as Prince Eric. Both thrived despite having less experience with the Lipscomb theater programs. The cast also adapted to a new Director, Christin Toole, since Lipscomb’s previous Director transferred to the university.  The Lipscomb Academy Theater Program has performed many great Disney hits over the past years including “Cinderella” in 2018 and “High School Musical” in 2022. Amy Welch gets vulnerable about work and faith

Navigating middle school and high school can be one of the hardest challenges children face as the social aspects of school are highly overlooked. For some students it can be a wonderful experience full of life-giving moments. For others, not so much. High school can be a dreaded and anxiety-induced seven hours of their day.  In our day and age, people expect students to not only succeed but to excel in all their academics. This is creating one of the most stressed out and anxious generations. But who are the people in students’ lives that mentor them and guide them into success? Here at Lipscomb, Amy Welch is one of…

Gym renovation: Players look forward to update

Both of the gyms are undergoing renovations that are set to finish the week before Thanksgiving Break. The renovations are being done to bring a liveliness to the gym and create excitement for the students.  Students noticed workers in the auxiliary gym right before fall break, and excitement arose. No one was expecting the renovation other than the basketball team, who were told about the gyms over the summer. The gym renovations came from the Academy wanting to improve our athletic programs.  According to Andrew Greer, a varsity boys basketball coach, our school has made a lot of improvements to other athletic programs, and the new gyms are an upgrade…

Mustangs to play Division II-AAA FOR 2023-2024 season.

Lipscomb Academy’s high school football team, the Mustangs, are officially moving from TSSAA Division II-AA to Division II-AAA for their 2023-2024 season.  The LA Mustangs are the current defending 2021 state champions and the 2020 state runners up with a streak of 17 consecutive wins and a record of 311 points scored. Throughout the whole 2022 season, there have only been 52 points scored against LA.  Because of Lipscomb’s dominance on the football field, some schools don’t see the competition as fair. One team chose to cancel their game altogether even though they have been on Lipscomb’s regular football schedule for years. When the Mustangs change divisions, opportunities will be…

Getting to know the new SESL team at Lipscomb

Here at Lipscomb Academy, there have been a few important staff changes over the past year that Lipscomb students should be aware of regarding the social emotional and spiritual learning (SESL) team. I was able to sit down with two of the newest faculty members at LA, Ms. Elliot and Mrs. Kiser, who were both hired during the second semester of last year, and got to know both of them a little bit more. I believe that the students should feel comfortable and safe with whomever their resources at school are so that when challenges arise in the classroom or at home, they know where to go.  Mrs. Kiser is…

Lumination Network mockup for archival pieces.

Republished from Lumination Network, Dec. 2, 2021. CHATTANOOGA – The Lipscomb Academy varsity football team won the BlueCross Bowl Division II-AA Tennessee State Championship over the Christ Presbyterian Academy Lions 27-0 Thursday morning at Finley Stadium in Chattanooga. Senior quarterback Luther Richesson led the Mustangs to their first Division II-AA state title, going 16-for-18 in the air for 147 yards, a touchdown and an interception. A matchup rich with storylines brought together two teams with revenge on their minds: after CPA took down Lipscomb in last year’s state championship game, Lipscomb punished the Lions at home in a 38-0 drubbing to win the regular season title. This time around, it was…
