Being a Witness-Podcast
In this Podcast, we will be “short diving” into what it means to be a Witness to Jesus, and to recognize how He has worked in your life. In the moment and during certain points in your life, a lot of the time you aren’t looking for your Witness. And that’s okay. Reflection is still recognition, even if it takes a little bit longer.

Sephora Crisis of 2023
Recently when you go into your local Sephora have you noticed a chaotic mess or a swarm of 12-year-old little girls? Well the media certainly has. This trend of 12-14 year old little girls who come into Sephora—unattended—to buy the newest Drunk Elephant serum or Rare Beauty blush has surfaced all over TikTok. People are sharing their experiences in storytimes or “Get ready with me” videos of coming in contact with a young tween in Sephora. This initially became a trend when Sephora employees took to Tiktok to complain about how these girls treat the staff. They used words like “bratty” and “spoiled” to describe the children. But why is…

Tav Shaffer replaces Deuce Knight as the Mustang’s starting quarterback.
Lipscomb Academy lost their star quarterback, Deuce Knight, after he played three games for the Mustangs, resulting in a QB change that put Tav Shaffer on the starting offensive lineup. The Lipscomb football team dominated through the 2021 and 2022 seasons, but the 2023 season has proved challenging. Knight left his home in Mississippi, over 400 miles away from Nashville, to pursue his football career at Lipscomb. His time as a Mustang didn’t last long. He started the season with the Mustangs at the end of July, but he returned home after Lipscomb’s third game of the season. “I just wanted to get around everybody else in my family, my…

Interview with Lipscomb’s New Freshman President, Tucker Dukes
I had the opportunity to speak with Lipscomb’s Freshman class president, Tucker Dukes, and the Vice President, Emma Singleton, to learn more about their campaigns and plans moving forward for the freshman class. Lucy Edgley: How long have you been at Lipscomb? Tucker Dukes: This is my third year. That would mean you got here in sixth grade or..? Seventh grade Seventh grade, okay, do you think that you not being a “lifer” allows you to bring anything unique to the table? How does that make you feel—running for president since you haven’t been here since fifth grade, but you’re also not the newest? Well, I’ve seen like other schools…

Lipscomb Academy performs The Little Mermaid for Spring Musical
The Lipscomb Academy theater program performed the Disney classic “The Little Mermaid” for their annual high school musical. Behind the scenes, the program navigated exciting technical challenges, new cast members and a new staff. The musical featured one of Lipscomb’s first Sophomore Leads, Charlotte Payne as Ariel, and new student Kyle Varenkamp as Prince Eric. Both thrived despite having less experience with the Lipscomb theater programs. The cast also adapted to a new Director, Christin Toole, since Lipscomb’s previous Director transferred to the university. The Lipscomb Academy Theater Program has performed many great Disney hits over the past years including “Cinderella” in 2018 and “High School Musical” in 2022. This…

Amy Welch gets vulnerable about work and faith
Navigating middle school and high school can be one of the hardest challenges children face as the social aspects of school are highly overlooked. For some students it can be a wonderful experience full of life-giving moments. For others, not so much. High school can be a dreaded and anxiety-induced seven hours of their day. In our day and age, people expect students to not only succeed but to excel in all their academics. This is creating one of the most stressed out and anxious generations. But who are the people in students’ lives that mentor them and guide them into success? Here at Lipscomb, Amy Welch is one of…

Mustangs to play Division II-AAA FOR 2023-2024 season.
Lipscomb Academy’s high school football team, the Mustangs, are officially moving from TSSAA Division II-AA to Division II-AAA for their 2023-2024 season. The LA Mustangs are the current defending 2021 state champions and the 2020 state runners up with a streak of 17 consecutive wins and a record of 311 points scored. Throughout the whole 2022 season, there have only been 52 points scored against LA. Because of Lipscomb’s dominance on the football field, some schools don’t see the competition as fair. One team chose to cancel their game altogether even though they have been on Lipscomb’s regular football schedule for years. When the Mustangs change divisions, opportunities will be…

Getting to know the new SESL team at Lipscomb
Here at Lipscomb Academy, there have been a few important staff changes over the past year that Lipscomb students should be aware of regarding the social emotional and spiritual learning (SESL) team. I was able to sit down with two of the newest faculty members at LA, Ms. Elliot and Mrs. Kiser, who were both hired during the second semester of last year, and got to know both of them a little bit more. I believe that the students should feel comfortable and safe with whomever their resources at school are so that when challenges arise in the classroom or at home, they know where to go. Mrs. Kiser is…
