MBB Head Coach Lennie Acuff announces he will leave Lipscomb
Lipscomb announced this morning that men’s basketball Head Coach Lennie Acuff has accepted the head coaching position at Samford University. President Candice McQueen said that Acuff informed the university of his plans just this morning. The decision was driven by his desire to be nearer to family during this season of life, according to Acuff. The opportunity to coach at Samford allows him to return to his home state of Alabama and be nearer to his children and wife’s aging parents. Acuff has been the head coach at Lipscomb since 2019, and has just recently coached the team to its fourth ASUN conference championship win and second NCAA Tournament appearance.…

All smiles for March Madness – a photo gallery
Lipscomb’s men’s basketball team took on the Iowa State Cyclones this month in March Madness. Though the No. 14 Bisons fell to the No. 3 Cyclones, the team was all smiles, as they got to take part in something most kids dream about – playing in the big dance. Under the lights of the Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, the Bisons warmed up with a shoot around on the floor of the NBA Bucks’ home stadium. Everyone on the team was smiling and joking with one another as they prepared for the biggest game of the postseason. It had been a fantastic regular season for the Bisons – the team…

The Bisons at the Big Dance – a photo gallery
The No. 14 Lipscomb Bisons took on the No. 3 Iowa State Cyclones on Thursday at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Though the Bisons fell to the Cyclones 55-82, appearing in March Madness is always memorable. Herd Media Sports Photographer Micah Barkley traveled on a bus with the Lippy Lunatics to cover the game. The Lunatics rented two Gray Line buses, and almost 100 students – Lunatics and Pep Band – made their way to Milwaukee. It was a 25-and-a-half-hour “day” for the students, leaving at 1 a.m. on Friday morning and returning to campus at around 2:30 a.m. Saturday. These are some of the shots from the Bisons’ second…

Basketball takes on Central Arkansas twice and dominates – a photo gallery
Lipscomb’s men’s basketball team faced off against the Central Arkansas Bears twice in the past week. Their first game, on Wednesday, saw them beat the Bears 78-60 to become the ASUN regular season champions. Then in their second game, on Monday, they triumphed over the bears 84-66 to move forward in the ASUN Tournament bracket. There were some key moments in both games, some of which happened not once, but twice – such as Lipscomb senior forward Jacob Ognacevic dunking on UCA. Herd Media Sports Photographer Micah Barkley captured those moments. Both games against the Bears were fast-paced, with the Bisons pulling ahead early. Though the Bears briefly regained some…

Lipscomb men’s basketball beats UNA to tie for first in ASUN standings
Lipscomb men’s basketball faced off against the University of North Alabama in a high-stakes game on Thursday night. The winner would determine the ASUN standings, as UNA was first with 12-3 and Lipscomb was tied for second with 11-4. If Lipscomb beat the UNA Lions, they would advance to tied for first in the ASUN standings. And beat them they did, finishing out the game 75-63 over the Lions. “We said there’s three things when you play them,” said head coach Lennie Acuff. “The paint, the glass and the free throw line.” “They live in the paint like you saw at the end and they start driving that ball. I…

Ognacevic reflects on the beginning and looks ahead to the rest of his fifth college season
Lipscomb’s men’s basketball team has been dominating their season, currently 13-6 in all and 5-1 in ASUN conference play. Senior Forward, Jacob Ognacevic, has contributed greatly to the team’s success, coming back from a redshirted junior year to start every game for the Bisons. Despite not seeing the court due to his injury for nearly two years, Ognacevic came back ready to play, and with a more positive outlook on the game as a whole. (For more on this, read the article on Jacob Ognacevic from pre-season here.) This season, Ognacevic has not only been leading the team in many areas, but averaging 18.9 points a game, a new college…

Challenges have given Ognacevic patience and positivity as he anticipates fifth college season
Men’s basketball senior forward Jacob Ognacevic has faced what many would call a tough series of challenges. A high school senior season cut short by COVID-19, health issues during a redshirt freshmen debut year at Lipscomb University and a junior year on the sidelines due to an injured knee have all attempted to get in his way. But the 6’8″ forward hasn’t let any of those challenges stop him. In fact, Ognacevic’s skills have only improved. “I’m just kind of using that [junior] year as a blessing because when it all happened and when I had the redshirt, I didn’t want to take a negative outlook on it,” Ognacevic said.…

Step into the world where basketball meets country music, and discover the story behind the Lady Bisons’ one-of-a-kind Dolly Parton jerseys.
