“The shot” still replayed today
It may be the most famous few seconds of Lipscomb Sports history. A 75-foot 3-point buzzer beater known as “the shot.” And while this “shot” took place in 2001, 22 years later during every Men’s Basketball game fans get to relive the magic. The video is shown on the screens and then a lucky student gets to try to recreate the shot. Who was the player who took the shot? How did it change his life? Herd Media tracked down Clayton Osborn, a former student, in Utah, to talk about the legendary shot that put his name in the Lipscomb History books. An Answer to Prayer Clayton when looking back…

Inside the life of TB3
The life of a student-athlete comes with many difficulties. School alone is a challenge, but balancing school and sports comes with challenges of its own. Trae Benham (also known as “TB3”), a sophomore guard at Lipscomb, puts it this way, “There’s not a whole lot of things you can do outside of basketball and school just because you’re days kinda hectic…” Obviously, it is a difficult job, but there are many upsides as well. You can learn a whole lot. “It kind of gets easier as the year goes on…finding a balance, finding a schedule, making sure you don’t procrastinate on things…” Being a student-athlete forced Benham to become more…

3 men God used to save nations
Republished from Bible and Basketball, March 8, 2023. God Loves all people. That does not mean he loves all ideas. A lot of times, God will move His hand through individuals to allow nations to experience His glory. The three men that God used in the Bible that I will hit on are Joseph, Moses and Joshua in that order. Joseph Joseph was the 12th son of Jacob and Sarah. Joseph has a dream that his brothers were all worshiping him through a symbolic vision of stalks of grain. Long story short, Joseph was betrayed by his brothers and was sold into slavery, then falsely accused of harassing the wife…

Another “stampede-like” year for sports
Another year has gone by for Bison’s basketball and soccer and it’s been a good one. Although there still are a few sports in season, or just starting their season, the school year is closing fast and it’s time to look back at how the herd handled the rest of the nation. After making it to the ASUN conference playoffs last year, the Men’s basketball team returned once again. The guys didn’t play as well as expected, bringing in a record of 20 wins and 13 losses. But, they ended conference play on a three-game win streak giving them the 5 seed in the tournament. After beating Stetson in a…

What next year’s Bisons squad consists of
One common theme throughout college athletics is the transfer portal. The portal allows athletes to hop around from school to school to compete in their desired sport. It makes things incredibly interesting as far as the dynamic of the team, how a coach will recruit, and even just new faces on the roster. Fortunately enough, the women’s basketball team will remain as a whole. Every player on the team from this past season will return, including seniors Blythe Pearson and Jalyn Holcomb, who will use their extra year of eligibility given to them because of Covid-19. They will gain three upcoming freshmen as well. On the other hand, there will…

The Art Of Walking On
Everyone loves a good story where a walk-on gets into the game and hits a shot and the place erupts, don’t we? But what about everything the walk-on has done to get to that point? Not celebrated, nothing glamorous, just good ol’ hard work and determination. Jack Ingold, a walk-on here at Lipscomb, puts it this way, “I would say just do everything and expect nothing. Find ways to be impactful in your role.” That’s it. In your role. The key to being a great walk-on is to know your role. And to know that your role makes a huge difference on the team. Jack goes on, “You might not…

The new look Bisons
The Lipscomb Men’s basketball season just ended, and the Bisons will not look the same when the season starts next year. The Bisons only have two seniors, but unfortunately, they are two very important players who play a huge role at Lipscomb University. Matt Schner First is Matt Schner. Matt transferred to Lipscomb this year for his final season of college basketball. Matt had previously played at Emory University, a D3 school in Atlanta Georgia (that’s why he only has 1 year of stats on ESPN). If you want to see his Emory stats click here. In his final year at Emory he brought in 23 points, 9 rebounds, and…

A look back at the special 2022-2023 Lipscomb Women’s Basketball Team
Devastatingly, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team fell to Liberty 84-56 last Wednesday in the ASUN semifinals, officially concluding their season. Although it was a loss by a wide margin, the result is not how we should remember this team. The way we should is a team that reached the 20-win threshold and went high above expectations. As we reflect on this special Lipscomb team, let’s examine this past season and three things to prepare for next year. Looking back at early November, no one had much faith in the Bisons. They had finished the past season with a 10-20 record while losing three starters: Jordan Peete, Maddie Cook, and Casey…

A final look at the 2022-23 Lipscomb men’s basketball team
The Lipscomb Bisons’ season concluded this past Thursday in the ASUN semifinal as they fell to Kennesaw State in an emotional, hard-fought battle in Kennesaw, Georgia. The team never lost sight of their goal even at some of the most challenging junctures of the game. This hard-nosed mentality was evident all year, even more so considering how far they had come. Before we bid farewell to this team, let’s reflect on this year’s season and consider three things for next year. Flashback to November when hardly anyone believed in this Bisons squad. They were picked to finish sixth in the ASUN Coach’s Preseason poll and eighth in the media poll.…
