    A Lipscomb pep band comeback?

The atmosphere in Allen Arena is about to change drastically. According to Landon Parrish, Special Assistant to President McQueen, Lipscomb University will have a full-fledged band playing at every basketball game this year. Parrish says, “Without a band, Allen arena just feels empty during games. You can fill dead air during timeouts and transitions with piped-in music from a computer along with the cheer team, but there’s just something missing.” This wouldn’t be the first time Allen Arena’s court is met with live music. Since 2001, the university has had different versions of a band at many games. Parrish has been there to see all of them. The history starts…

When does fan behavior become lunacy?

It all started with silence. At a place where you’d expect to hear a crowd. At the start of the 2022 season, sophomore sports management major Jackson Gibree said he could hear the sound of a pin drop during the volleyball game in Allen Arena. “How [can you have] this many people here with nobody standing up, nobody loud? Why are we not using our home-court advantage?” After Jackson asked himself these questions, you might say he grabbed the ball and ran with it. What started as a small GroupMe eventually grew to an Instagram account of almost 600 followers, and a new student section – the Lippy Lunatics –…

Jelldrik Dallmann appreciates the rewards from this year’s championship soccer season

Months ago, before the Lipscomb men’s soccer team played in the ASUN conference championship final, senior forward Jelldrik Dallmann of Kuhstedt, Germany, mentioned that his dream was to win a championship ring – and had been since he’d come to the United States. The Bisons went on to do just that – win the final game, take the title of ASUN champions and win their rings. On top of all of that, Dallmann was named the ASUN Player of the Year for the 2022 season. Once the championship rings made their way to Lipscomb’s campus, the team held a ceremony. That tangible reward was new to Dallmann. “They don’t have…

    Inside the life of TB3

The life of a student-athlete comes with many difficulties. School alone is a challenge, but balancing school and sports comes with challenges of its own. Trae Benham (also known as “TB3”), a sophomore guard at Lipscomb, puts it this way, “There’s not a whole lot of things you can do outside of basketball and school just because you’re days kinda hectic…” Obviously, it is a difficult job, but there are many upsides as well. You can learn a whole lot. “It kind of gets easier as the year goes on…finding a balance, finding a schedule, making sure you don’t procrastinate on things…” Being a student-athlete forced Benham to become more…

Lipscomb baseball claims ASUN title, heads to the NCAA tournament

In a year featuring many memorable moments for Lipscomb sports, another one happened on Sunday afternoon. The Lipscomb Bisons baseball team claimed a 12-6 championship victory over their ASUN foes Florida Gulf Coast to reach the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2015. However, it took a lot of resilience from the team to catapult their way to this position. The club would drop their first two pool play games in Deland, Florida, to Liberty and Florida Gulf Coast but utilized a unique tournament format to their advantage. Securing a victory in an elimination game against the Jacksonville Dolphins, the team would advance to play the Liberty Flames again…

    Another “stampede-like” year for sports

Another year has gone by for Bison’s basketball and soccer and it’s been a good one. Although there still are a few sports in season, or just starting their season, the school year is closing fast and it’s time to look back at how the herd handled the rest of the nation. After making it to the ASUN conference playoffs last year, the Men’s basketball team returned once again. The guys didn’t play as well as expected, bringing in a record of 20 wins and 13 losses. But, they ended conference play on a three-game win streak giving them the 5 seed in the tournament. After beating Stetson in a…

What next year’s Bisons squad consists of

One common theme throughout college athletics is the transfer portal. The portal allows athletes to hop around from school to school to compete in their desired sport. It makes things incredibly interesting as far as the dynamic of the team, how a coach will recruit, and even just new faces on the roster. Fortunately enough, the women’s basketball team will remain as a whole. Every player on the team from this past season will return, including seniors Blythe Pearson and Jalyn Holcomb, who will use their extra year of eligibility given to them because of Covid-19. They will gain three upcoming freshmen as well. On the other hand, there will…
