Lady Bisons defeat West Florida 2-1 on Senior Night

Lipscomb women’s soccer celebrated Senior Night in Sunday evening, battling to a 2-1 win over the University of West Florida at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex.

Freshman forward Addison Millo delivered the game-winner in the 79th minute to cap off a thrilling second half and secure the home victory for the Bisons on their home pitch.

After a scoreless opening 45th minute, senior forward Jaide-Simone Prejean broke the deadlock early in the second half. In the 54th minute, sophomore midfielder Abigail Ross fed Prejean inside the box, where the senior buried a finish to give Lipscomb a 1–0 advantage.

West Florida equalized six minutes later following a Bisons foul inside the penalty box. Argos senior midfielder Lucia Revuelto stepped up to the penalty spot in the 61st minute and calmly converted to level the match at 1–1.

Lipscomb responded with pressure down the stretch. The break came in the 79th minute when junior midfielder Tatum Ahlemeyer and sophomore forward Skylar Cole set up Millo, who struck her shot past UWF graduate goalkeeper Karla Guzman-Ortiz to restore the Bisons’ lead at 2–1.

Bisons’ junior goalkeeper Sundell “Sunnie” Woodard anchored Lipscomb’s backline throughout the match, finishing with four crucial saves to hold off the Argos’ late attack. Guzman-Ortiz recorded three saves on the night for West Florida.

Physical play picked up in the final minutes as Lipscomb defended its late advantage, but the Bisons managed to close out the final whistles unscathed to send their senior class off with a victory.

Lipscomb will close out its regular season schedule on the road next week. The Lady Bisons head to Louisville, Kentucky, on Saturday, Oct. 31, to take on Bellarmine University at Owsley B. Frazier Stadium.
