The life of a student-athlete comes with many difficulties. School alone is a challenge, but balancing school and sports comes with challenges of its own. Trae Benham (also known as “TB3”), a sophomore guard at Lipscomb, puts it this way, “There’s not a whole lot of things you can do outside of basketball and school just because you’re days kinda hectic…” Obviously, it is a difficult job, but there are many upsides as well. You can learn a whole lot. “It kind of gets easier as the year goes on…finding a balance, finding a schedule, making sure you don’t procrastinate on things…” Being a student-athlete forced Benham to become more…

In a year featuring many memorable moments for Lipscomb sports, another one happened on Sunday afternoon. However, it took a lot of resilience from the team to catapult their way to this position. The club would drop their first two pool play games in Deland, Florida, to Liberty and Florida Gulf Coast but utilized a unique tournament format to their advantage. What next year’s Bisons squad consists of

One common theme throughout college athletics is the transfer portal. The portal allows athletes to hop around from school to school to compete in their desired sport. It makes things incredibly interesting as far as the dynamic of the team, how a coach will recruit, and even just new faces on the roster. Fortunately enough, the women’s basketball team will remain as a whole. Every player on the team from this past season will return, including seniors Blythe Pearson and Jalyn Holcomb, who will use their extra year of eligibility given to them because of Covid-19. They will gain three upcoming freshmen as well. On the other hand, there will…

    Bisons of a different color

Where is the purple and gold we have come to know and love? The Lipscomb Bisons were not always in the purple and the gold. On Sundays, the Bisons deviate from the purple and gold and wear their throwback jerseys. Why the change in color from what we have come to know and love? Kings of the NAIA! Back when the player our stadium is named after, Ken Dugan, was playing and later coaching his days here at Lipscomb, the Bisons wore jerseys with blue and red. Also, Lipscomb was known as David Lipscomb College. When Ken Dugan was a coach for the Bisons, they ended up winning their first-ever…

    The Art Of Walking On

Everyone loves a good story where a walk-on gets into the game and hits a shot and the place erupts, don’t we? But what about everything the walk-on has done to get to that point? Not celebrated, nothing glamorous, just good ol’ hard work and determination. Jack Ingold, a walk-on here at Lipscomb, puts it this way, “I would say just do everything and expect nothing. Find ways to be impactful in your role.” That’s it. In your role. The key to being a great walk-on is to know your role. And to know that your role makes a huge difference on the team. Jack goes on, “You might not…

    Wilmore, Kentucky’s second favorite man

Republished from The Flying Herd, March 9, 2023. Sometimes history is a strange thing. Coach Will Shouse played for Asbury University from 1998-2002. He was away from the game until 2006 when Kentucky Christian University came calling. In the 2023 Mideast Regional Semifinal, Asbury University, the team that Coach Shouse had been the head man for since 2008, was blowing out the Kentucky Christian Knights. As the final buzzer sounded, it was obvious that Coach Shouse was the best coach in this matchup.  The fact that Coach Shouse was the best coach in the matchup was a fact that was true in most games this season. Nineteen wins to six losses was a record…
