Bison Triumph: Thrilling buzzer-beater caps Star Wars night victory over Jacksonville Dolphins

The Bisons win at the Buzzer with free throws by Derrin Boyd in a thrilling 84-82 victory over the Dolphins of Jacksonville. Will Pruit was by far the player of the game with 19 points, 8 rebounds and finished 4-5 from three-point land. Boyd was just as steady with quite 24 points.  

Fans enjoyed a Star Wars themed game, nothing short of spectacular. There were several Star Wars characters in Allen Arena Circle for fans to meet. On another note, the 12^th Annual Adoption Rally took place during the first half. 3 families were recognized at mid-court. Lipscomb Athletics gave 100% of the proceeds given towards the rally to these 3 families.

First Half:

• It was a slow 0-6 start from the field for Lipscomb. Allowing Jacksonville to take momentum early in the first half.  

• Stops and scores by Pruit and McCormack kept the Bisons in striking distance.  

• A few notable plays from the half were associated with the three balls. Cody Head, Pruit and McCormack were all in on the action.  

• Lipscomb led Jacksonville at the half 37-35 

Second Half:

• Lipscomb had the advantage for most of the second half. Jacksonville’s Jarius Cook kept the Dolphins afloat and in arms reach.  

• Just when the game felt like it was in Lipscomb’s favor, the Bisons struggled to find the rim. The Dolphins forced turnovers and kept pounding the glass with 38 points in the paint by the end of the game.  

• Just when fans started packing their bags, Jacksonville’s Cook tied the game from beyond the arc 82-82 with 7 seconds and the ball in the Bisons’ hand. Lipscomb decided to pressure the defense at the rim, forcing the Dolphins to foul Boyd. Boyd made both free throws to seal the game 84-82.

• No. 4 Derrin Boyd: Boyd led the game with 24 points, grabbed 4 rebounds, and shot 8-12 from the field. 

• No. 2 Will Pruit: Pruit contributed 19 points and secured 8 rebounds while making 4-5 from three-point range. 

• No. 5 Cody Head: Head scored 15 points and shot 5-8 from the field. 

The Bisons’ next matchup is against the Queens of Charlotte on Thursday, February 8, at 7 p.m.
