Homecoming Kicks off with Spirit Week, Homecoming Court Winners Announced

The SGA recently announced the Homecoming theme as “Music city, USA,” and finalized plans for spirit week and the dance. Students voted for Homecoming court as the school prepares for the age-old Homecoming tradition.

HOMECOMING THEMES & SGA

Every year, SGA plans Homecoming for Lipscomb students and makes sure that it will be a fun theme and a good experience for all.

 This year, Student Body President Jake Rosenthal and Vice President Caroline Jackson took the lead and decided on “Music City, USA” as the 2023 Homecoming theme. 

The themes for spirit week are all music inspired. Each day will be based on a different musical genre. This year, spirit week falls after the long weekend, so there are only four dress up days.

The week kicks off on Tuesday with the theme “Lullabies.” Students are allowed to wear their pajamas and comfy clothes. On Wednesday, each Lipscomb house will dress up as a different decade’s most famous musical genre. On Thursday, the theme is “The Blues.” Students may wear anything that is the color blue. 

The week concludes on Friday with a Western theme, fitting for Nashville Tennessee as it is widely known as Music City. Western is also the homecoming football game’s theme.

HOMECOMING DANCE 

In previous years, Lipscomb has held their dance primarily in venues near or in Downtown Nashville. This year, Lipscomb is holding their dance at the Musicians Hall of Fame. 

Students will have the opportunity to access the museum and participate in interactive events such as touring the museum and getting to work in the recording studio. 

Rosenthal and Jackson played a large part in planning this dance.

“It feels good to know I made people happy,” Jackson said.

The Student Government knew the venue first after Miss Pearl booked the Hall of Fame. According to Miss. Pearl, the location inspired the theme Music City. 

In Acuff during chapel when the themes were announced, students cheered with excitement, especially the seniors who get to enjoy their last Homecoming with a theme they seem to love. 

COURT

Kyle Jenkins and Ramey Page are this year’s Homecoming King and Queen after being elected by their peers. Page said that she is excited to be recognized by her community.

“It means just getting to represent my school in a way that is special and I think that’s something that’s really cool and never something I thought I would get.” Page said.

This has been a dream come true for Page as this has been something she’s hoped to earn ever since a good family friend of hers won Homecoming Queen for her school. Page described her as an inspiration for her every day.

The King and Queen will be crowned this Friday during the homecoming football game.
