Interview with Junior President and Vice President
In this interview I talked with Junior class president, CJ Jimcoily, to dive into his intentions for the student body and his goals set for the Junior class.
Was there a moment or point that made you decide to run for president?
It was something I had wanted to do for a while.
In your speech, you said you want to prioritize student voices. How do you plan to get feedback from the students and put their opinions to use?
Using my relationships that I have with students, I know I can directly ask some of the students for their opinions. I also am proposing to do more surveys and do work to get those used more.
What type of things are students asking for to change Lipscomb?
I know so far pep rallies have been the main complaint, so I am working to change that.
Besides prioritizing the students’ voices, what other goals do you have as president?
I want everything to be more enjoyable for the student body and more engaging. Really, I just want it to be more fun to an appropriate extent. I am pushing for what I can get from the faculty and staff.
Do you have any plans to become president of the school for your senior year?
I aspire to continue my presidential career.
In this interview I was able to speak with Junior vice president, Claire Welch, to gain more perspective on what exactly she plans to do to hear the Junior class’s opinions and what other ideas she has for improvement.
Was there a moment or point that made you decide to run for vice president in the first place?
After talking to Mrs. Pearl, she encouraged me to do it, and I realized it’s something that I can be good at.
What about the vice president position interested you in contrast to the president position?
I wanted to still be a part of making the big decisions and representing, but I didn’t want to have full control.
In your speech, you said you want to hear everyone’s perspective. How do you plan to showcase that?
I want to make it available for everyone to be able to talk to me if they can whether they come up to me in person, email me, or any other ways.
Besides putting other students’ opinions to use, what other goals do you have as vice president?
I want to make student life better by making pep rallies better, helping exchange students share more of their culture, having more people come to games, and overall just making everyone feel welcome.
Do you have any plans to become president or vice president of the school for your senior year?
I think it’s an option and definitely something to consider.
