Lipscomb falls to FGCU in regular-season finale

A close game between the Lady Bisons and Florida Gulf Coast Wednesday night turned into the biggest Lipscomb loss of the women’s season. The Eagles won 101-59 in both teams’ final regular-season game. This was not how anyone expected the Lady Bisons’ final game of the season to go. FGCU (29-3, 17-1 in the ASUN) is No. 24 in the nation and enter the postseason first in the ASUN. The Lady Bisons (19-11, 13-5) are seeded third in the conference and have a first-round bye in the ASUN championship.  The Lady Bisons led the Eagles 25-20 by the end of the first quarter, but the Eagles would rally back tremendously…

Women’s Battle of the Boulevard approaches

With the days counting down to the Women’s Basketball Battle of the Boulevard, expectations build on Lipscomb’s campus. Last year Lipscomb sadly lost to the Belmont Bruins 67-62, but after the Men’s spectacular turnaround and defeat of the Bruins this season on November 14th, there is hope rising on campus. Lipscomb has not beaten Belmont in Women’s Basketball since the 2011 Battle of the Boulevard, but the last two Battles have been close. Belmont won last year 67-62, and the 2019 Battle was a mere one point game, Belmont winning 69-68. On top of the close last two games, the Women’s roster has changed since last year’s Battle, with only…

    Women’s basketball tops WKU

BOWLING GREEN, Kentucky- Following a nine-day hiatus from the court, the Lipscomb women’s basketball team defeated the Western Kentucky Lady Toppers 84-66. Whether it was the turkey from Thanksgiving or the relaxing trip to Hawaii two weekends prior, Lipscomb was ready for the challenge. From the opening tip to the end of the first quarter, the Bisons couldn’t miss. The team converted on a whopping 62.5% of their threes and a sizzling 78.6% from the arc. The squad would finish the quarter with a 27-15 advantage, but the Toppers fought back in the second. WKU tried to make the necessary adjustments with a change in defensive scheme. However, the Bisons…

Volleyball season recap: what to expect next year

The 2022 Lipscomb volleyball season has come to an end after a tight loss to the Liberty Flames in the semifinal of the ASUN Tournament on November 18th.  The match could not have been closer, with the game going the distance to a fifth set. Liberty finished the game off with a kill from former Bison Kamryn Bacus, with the final score of the fifth set being 15 to 13.  This Bisons squad was always one who had plenty of potential to grab a very high seed in the tournament, but they found themselves in the middle of the ASUN pack in the fourth spot. What exactly led Lipscomb to…

Bass battles for both sides of the boulevard

It’s not very often an athlete is able to partake in both sides of a rivalry, but for Kailee Bass, the story is different. Bass, a fifth-year senior middle blocker on Lipscomb’s volleyball team, has had the experience of getting to play for both sides of the geographically closest rivalry in all of college sports, with roughly two miles separating the campuses. Flipping her blue and red colors for a purple and gold jersey was never in Bass’ intentions. In fact, it was a long process for her to become a Bruin in the first place. “I actually went to nine different schools before I liked a school,” Bass said.…

Women’s basketball powers past Delta Devilettes

The Lipscomb Women’s Basketball Team defeated the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils by a final score of 67-45 Monday evening. Aleah Sorentino, a redshirt sophomore transfer from Ole Miss, started the first quarter off strong with six points after making three of her first four shots. Sorrentino would score on a layup to take a 13-7 Bisons lead at the end of the quarter. Both teams struggled with turnovers in the second quarter, and the Bisons were unable to separate themselves from the Delta Devils. Over a five-possession stretch, the Bisons turned the ball over four times. Guard Krisen Hunt made a three-point jumper to take a one-point lead for…

    Volleyball victorious in finale

FLORENCE, Alabama – The Lipscomb volleyball team outdid North Alabama Sunday 3-0 at Flowers Hall in the final match of the 2022 regular season. With the win and results elsewhere, the Bisons clinched the fourth seed in next weekend’s eight-team ASUN Conference Tournament. Freshman setter Sophia Hodepohl paced the Bisons with 41 assists, adding three kills, five digs, and three blocks. The Mason, Ohio native has been the lone setter on Lipscomb’s roster since a season-ending injury to senior setter Ashleigh Albert. “It’s been a lot of work,” Hudepohl said. “I miss [Ashleigh Albert] and I’m so sad she’s hurt right now, but being the only setter in the gym…
