Lipscomb kicks off the holiday season with 19th annual Lighting of the Green
Lipscomb continued a popular community tradition Tuesday night with the 19th annual Lighting of the Green. Amy Grant made an appearance once again and led the event with “Tennessee Christmas,” “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree,” “Heirlooms” and “Emmanuel.” Lipscomb Academy and Lipscomb University choirs also performed on the stage outside of Allen Arena. “It’s another way to put Jesus into the Christmas season,” said Kalissa Finn, a Gospel Choir member. “That’s the main reason why I love bringing the Gospel Choir out here for the Lighting of the Green.” Inside Allen Arena was the Merry Marketplace, where local vendors set up shop to sell crafts and other wares. Walt Leaver looks back at inception, evolution of Lighting of the Green
Walt Leaver recently announced he would be retiring from his position as Lipscomb’s vice president of university relations, a role he has held since 1997. Leaver has been a cornerstone of many Lipscomb events, but chief among them is the annual Lighting of the Green. He was heavily responsible for the creation of the Christmastime event in 2005 and has been involved in every one since. Lighting of the Green returns to kick off the holiday season
If you’re new to campus, there’s a special holiday tradition coming that you won’t want to miss. Lighting of the Green is an annual event here at Lipscomb, and it’s returning for its 18th year. Held on campus, Lighting of the Green features different festivities and a concert to share holiday cheer. Preparation has already began. From building the stage to stringing the lights, campus is almost ready for the special event. Merry Marketplace will take place in McQuiddy Gym starting at 4 p.m. with free pictures with Santa at 4:30 p.m. There will be a variety of vendors who donate a portion of their proceeds to Associated Women for…
