Bisons bounce back: Gyasi Powell leads Lipscomb to dominant win
The Lipscomb Bisons rebounded from Thursday’s loss with a commanding 86-67 victory over West Georgia in a thrilling come-from-behind win. Despite a slow start that left them trailing by 15 points in the first half, the Bisons showed resilience to cut the deficit to five, entering halftime down 38-33.
West Georgia (3-13), riding high after a win over ASUN foe Austin Peay, looked poised to challenge Lipscomb early on. However, the second half told a completely different story.
The Bisons came out energized on defense, forcing five turnovers in the first five minutes of the second half, which fueled a massive 19-2 run. Key players Gyasi Powell, Joe Anderson, Myles White, and Will Pruitt caught fire, combining for 10 three-pointers in the half.
Gyasi Powell led the way with an impressive 20 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 assists, while the team shot an outstanding 63% from the field and an incredible 71% from beyond the arc.
Lipscomb, favored by 19.5 points according to Vegas odds, delivered an exciting finish. With 45 seconds remaining and the Bisons holding possession, Powell sank a dagger three-pointer to reach his 20th point and push the lead to 20. West Georgia then drew a foul with 14 seconds to go and hitting 2 free throws. Ultimately bringing the final margin back under the spread.
West Georgia falls to 3-14 overall and 1-3 in the ASUN. Lipscomb improves to 11-6 overall and 3-1 in ASUN play.
