Rachel Simpson’s EP recording journey
Recording and releasing songs and albums may seem simple for established artists, but not for music students. Rachel Simpson, a junior Commercial Music and Songwriting major from Bozeman, Montana, has just started her journey as a published artist and is recording her first EP. EP stands for extended play, a type of musical recording with more tracks than a single song but fewer than a full-length album. For Rachel, it’s six songs, each telling a story meaningful to her. Rachel Simpson plays her song at the recording session Simpson discovered her love for writing music in 2021 and has been writing ever since. Coming from a family of missionaries who…

Mild Bison: the journey of collaboration and music
This year, for the first time, a student-led music event on campus called Mild Bison took place at Lipscomb. Wild Bison, the outside festival that took place in March 2024 and featured alumni artists and students in the School of Music at Lipscomb, is coming back in October 2025. While the students and performers wait for the second outdoors festival, Red Dog Production, which is part of the College of Entertainment and Arts at Lipscomb (CEA), created Mild Bison. Isaac Horn and Lincoln Mick from The Arcadian Wild kick off the Writers’ Round The Arcadian Wild, whose two original members are Lipscomb alumni, hosted the event. They are the ones…

Lipscomb Engineering Students Secure Third Place in International Robotics Competition
A team of electrical engineering students from Lipscomb participated in RoboCup, an international robotics competition in Eindhoven, Netherlands, in the summer of 2024. Competing against teams from around the world, the students had an opportunity to showcase their skills in robotics programming, image recognition, problem-solving and others. They placed third in their category, the first two being Mexico and England. Their work started as a class project, and students had to program a robot arm to recognize objects and grab and move them correctly. A lot of it had to do with image recognition, which the students worked on alongside their professor, Dr. Juan Rojas. His Mechatronics class teaches students…

A New Year’s miracle
Editor’s Note: As part of a practicum assignment, students were asked to reflect on their favorite Christmas memories. This series, written in a more personal style, captures the unique moments and traditions that make the holiday season special. Christmas is a time to gather all family members together, remember the miracle of Jesus Christ’s birth, and spend time skiing and sledding. Did I mention the word “presents”? Showing love through all the things we buy for our close ones can be tiring, yet so rewarding and definitely worth it in the end. In Russia, New Year’s is actually bigger than Christmas, and the whole nation celebrates together once 12 hits.…

Worship at the Round
Lipscomb students gathered in Shamblin Theater for a campus-wide worship night, praising God and serving each other by leading worship and praying together. The worship night was called Worship at the Round since the worship team stood at the center of the room instead of the stage, and it was held on October 20, 2024. Herd Media’s Anastasia Bodyreva took photos of the event.

Let’s go on a cruise; the destination is Barista Parlor
Republished from Coffee with a Russian, February 23, 2023. Barista Parlor has won me with its aesthetic design and location near the center of the city. It does indeed look like a parlor, and it made me think of the adventures that could take place there. Although not at all luxurious, Barista Parlor has a relaxing design for anyone who needs a break from school, work and worrying. It is focused mainly on red and white colors along with being minimalistic and having a bunch of plants around. There are also seats outside located as if they were on a deck, which contributes to the sense of traveling. Whatever you need, you can…

How to fall in love with Poindexter in less than five minutes
Republished from Coffee with a Russian, March 9, 2023. This week I went deeper into downtown of Nashville and found Poindexter — an extra-authentic coffee shop located in the lobby of Graduate hotel. Both inside and outside of the building are unique and aesthetically pleasing, like the color palette of decor inside and the lights outside. The space is full of art and various-colored furniture. My favorite part of the shop is perhaps the patterned sofas located at different levels on the steps at one side of the hall. This design choice is so fun; I feel like it gives the visitors positive emotions right when they walk in. Poindexter’s menu has both made…
