How to replace the lies in your head
Republished from Giving Grace, February 16, 2023. Do you know how powerful your mind is? Did you know that 80% of our thoughts are negative and 95% of our thoughts are repetitive, according to the National Science Foundation. I think we can all say we have fallen down the rabbit hole of intrusive thoughts and overthink till we have thought of every situation possible. Maybe you don’t relate to exactly that, but every human has negative thoughts, and we tend to believe those hypothetical ideas. The psychological term for intrusive thoughts is unwanted thoughts that cause emotional distress and discomfort. I find myself creating those hypothetical situations and coming to an agreement with…

How to fall in love with Poindexter in less than five minutes
Republished from Coffee with a Russian, March 9, 2023. This week I went deeper into downtown of Nashville and found Poindexter — an extra-authentic coffee shop located in the lobby of Graduate hotel. Both inside and outside of the building are unique and aesthetically pleasing, like the color palette of decor inside and the lights outside. The space is full of art and various-colored furniture. Republished from Still Life with Rose, February 22, 2023. It can be tough learning what to prioritize and balance in your life, especially in college. You want to prioritize your education, but you also want the “college experience” you have always looked forward to. It is the second semester of my freshman year of college, and I am still learning how to balance all of these things. It is different for every person, but I am sharing what I am trying to do myself. The No. 1 priority for me is my health — physical, mental, emotional, spiritual, etc. Without good health, you cannot function the way you need to…

Comparison is killing your joy in life
Republished from Quincy Clark Hoops, March 2, 2023. A big part of life and specifically the sport of basketball is comparing people. It’s perfectly fine for others to compare you to your peers or other players. It all turns bad when you start to compare yourself to others. I’ve done it before throughout my whole career, and it has made me miserable. I was so concerned about what another player was able to do better than me that I lost sight of my own strengths. I began to play my game trying to prove I could do the same things the person I was comparing myself to could do. It…

My favorite ways of staying productive throughout the day
Republished from Shear Self Care, March 1, 2023. Because we all know it’s not always as easy as it sounds. I have noticed while being in college that being busy and staying productive are not really the same thing. It is easy to fall under stress, being pulled in all different directions and not taking the time to do the things we need to do that help us also take care of ourselves as well. Make a List of Essential Things that you need to get done. I have mentioned making lists in a previous post, but I really wanted to shed light on it again in this context. At the…
