Lipscomb University’s Raíces hosted the cultural trivia competition “Jeopardy for 500” on Thursday, Oct. 23, drawing approximately 30 students to the Office of Intercultural Development (OID) Lounge. Held from 3-5 p.m., the event featured a lively, communal atmosphere and focused on a blend of education and celebration, with students competing for bragging rights over categories like history and famous Latinos culture. Lipscomb University Gospel Choir debuts first album
If you walk up to the second floor of Ezell on Tuesday evenings, you’ll hear the strains of age-old gospel music ringing out from Ezell Chapel. Lipscomb University Gospel Choir has been gathering around the stained glass window in the chapel for the past five years now, practicing every Tuesday night. The choir has gotten multiple opportunities to sing at Lipscomb and on the road, and have released several singles. Lipscomb Athletic Director Philip Hutcheson announced this morning that Lipscomb had found their new men’s basketball head coach, in former Trevecca Nazarene University Head Coach Kevin Carroll. With former Lipscomb Head Coach Lennie Acuff’s decision to accept the head coaching position at Samford University and return to Alabama, Lipscomb began a search for a new head coach for their men’s basketball team. Over the past week, Hutcheson met with dozens of candidates from coaching levels around the country to find the best fit for the team. MBB Head Coach Lennie Acuff announces he will leave Lipscomb
Lipscomb announced this morning that men’s basketball Head Coach Lennie Acuff has accepted the head coaching position at Samford University. President Candice McQueen said that Acuff informed the university of his plans just this morning. The decision was driven by his desire to be nearer to family during this season of life, according to Acuff. The opportunity to coach at Samford allows him to return to his home state of Alabama and be nearer to his children and wife’s aging parents. Acuff has been the head coach at Lipscomb since 2019, and has just recently coached the team to its fourth ASUN conference championship win and second NCAA Tournament appearance.…

A Year Later: Lipscomb honors the Covenant School tragedy
Lipscomb remembered the one-year anniversary of the Covenant School tragedy on March 27. Lipscomb honored the lives lost and the community affected by the tragedy. Many people gathered in Bison Square to remember the victims and support their families. Lipscomb also encouraged students to pray at 10:10AM on Wednesday, the time of when the tragedy began. The service began with school officials offering words of comfort, reading the names of those who passed, and a moment of silence. Following the moment of silence, attendees sang“In Christ Alone”. This edition of Lipscomb by the numbers follows nine students and one professor almost 600 miles to Troy University for a weekend in February. From Feb. 23-25, nine students went with Dr. McCollum to the Southeastern Journalism Conference to compete and represent Lipscomb. They also went to find out if any fellow students from Lipscomb had won any of the prestigious Best of the South awards. It was not a disappointing weekend. College of Engineering Rocket Car Rally: Two decades of rocket car racing
On Friday, Feb. 23, during Lipscomb’s Giving Week and National Engineers Week, the College of Engineering kicked off its annual “Rocket Car Rally” for students to compete in. The competition has been a long-standing College of Engineering tradition for about two decades and invites students of all years and various interests in STEM to compete. The preparation begins every year with students establishing their teams and being given a small wedge of wood [about eight inches by two inches wide] two weeks prior to the competition. Earlier this week, the iconic Dolly Parton visited Lipscomb University’s campus to get an advance look at the installation of her upcoming fashion exhibit “Dolly Parton and the Makers: My Life in Rhinestones”. According to a statement from Lipscomb’s vice president of communications and marketing, Kim Chaudoin, Parton was at the school for an interview with Norah O’Donnell from CBS News. The interview took place in Beaman Library, where the exhibit is being held. Does your phone ring in class? – FEMA testing the Emergency Alert System
The Federal Emergency Management Agency will be partnering with the Federal Communications commission to conduct a test of the Emergency Alert System (EAS). There will be 2 parts of the test. The first part will be testing the Emergency Alert System, and the second part will test the Wireless Emergency Alert System (WEA). Both tests will begin at approximately 1:20 CT on Wednesday, Oct. 4th. What does this mean for you? The WEA portion of the test will send an alert to all cellular devices.
