Lipscomb students camp in Bennett as ice brings down trees and power lines
The winter storm projected for January 2026 hit Lipscomb’s campus in a far different manner than expected. Though the forecast had called for up to 15 inches of snow, the campus saw only two to three inches. The ice that followed, however, would cause a problem. Clinging to all of the trees and power lines both on campus and around Nashville, the ice wreaked havoc. Tree limbs came crashing down all across campus with crashing thuds and rending cracks. Some smaller trees were even fully uprooted by the weight of the ice. Students were advised to avoid walking underneath trees whenever possible and to stay alert when crossing beneath one.…

Commuter students weigh risks as winter storm threatens Middle Tennessee
Lipscomb University commuters are bracing for a mix of in-person, remote and canceled classes as a Severe Winter Storm Warning takes effect for Davidson County from midnight Friday through 6 p.m. Sunday. While the university typically remains open during inclement weather, the National Weather Service is warning that “travel could be impossible” as a mix of snow and ice moves through Middle Tennessee. Forecasters predict up to 6 inches of snow alongside ice accumulations that could reach three-quarters of an inch. A massive winter storm is making its way toward the South this weekend, a slow cell that will most likely sit over the Nashville area for up to 36 hours. After 23 years, Volleyball Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal to retire
When one thinks of Lipscomb Volleyball, Head Coach Brandon Rosenthal comes to mind. The two are strongly tied together – but they won’t be for much longer. After 23 seasons as Lipscomb Volleyball’s head coach, it’s no surprise that Rosenthal is one of the cornerstones of the program. Yet late in the afternoon of Jan. 7, his retirement was announced to the Lipscomb community. The decision came, Rosenthal said to Lipscomb Athletics, not from a desire to leave Lipscomb, but rather from one to “put FAMILY FIRST, a message I have preached for decades.” Athletic’s Director Philip Hutcheson, in a release from Athletics, spoke highly of Rosenthal. “Brandon’s legacy here…

Lipscomb WSOC Head Coach Kevin O’Brien to coach for Mississippi State
This afternoon, Mississippi State women’s soccer announced that Lipscomb women’s soccer Head Coach Kevin O’Brien would be coming to coach for the Bulldogs. O’Brien recently led the Bisons to their second consecutive ASUN Championship victory this season. He also took them back to the NCAA Tournament, where they beat Mississippi State 1-0 in the first round. O’Brien also won the ASUN Coach of the Year award for the 2025 season, making it his fifth career ASUN Coach of the Year. After 14 seasons coaching women’s soccer at Lipscomb, O’Brien is the winningest head coach in program history. He boasts more than 150 career victories, having reached that milestone this season.…

Lipscomb University’s Raíces hosted the cultural trivia competition “Jeopardy for 500” on Thursday, Oct. 23, drawing approximately 30 students to the Office of Intercultural Development (OID) Lounge. If you walk up to the second floor of Ezell on Tuesday evenings, you’ll hear the strains of age-old gospel music ringing out from Ezell Chapel. Lipscomb University Gospel Choir has been gathering around the stained glass window in the chapel for the past five years now, practicing every Tuesday night. The choir has gotten multiple opportunities to sing at Lipscomb and on the road, and have released several singles. Lipscomb Athletic Director Philip Hutcheson announced this morning that Lipscomb had found their new men’s basketball head coach, in former Trevecca Nazarene University Head Coach Kevin Carroll. With former Lipscomb Head Coach Lennie Acuff’s decision to accept the head coaching position at Samford University and return to Alabama, Lipscomb began a search for a new head coach for their men’s basketball team. Over the past week, Hutcheson met with dozens of candidates from coaching levels around the country to find the best fit for the team. MBB Head Coach Lennie Acuff announces he will leave Lipscomb
Lipscomb announced this morning that men’s basketball Head Coach Lennie Acuff has accepted the head coaching position at Samford University. President Candice McQueen said that Acuff informed the university of his plans just this morning. The decision was driven by his desire to be nearer to family during this season of life, according to Acuff. The opportunity to coach at Samford allows him to return to his home state of Alabama and be nearer to his children and wife’s aging parents. Acuff has been the head coach at Lipscomb since 2019, and has just recently coached the team to its fourth ASUN conference championship win and second NCAA Tournament appearance.…
