Lipscomb women’s golf makes history with first regionals trip

A historic Lipscomb moment happened on Wednesday as the Bisons women’s golf team awaited where they were headed for their first regionals trip.

“I’m so honored to get to walk this out,” said interim head coach Shannon O’Brien with a smile.

In what would serve as the pinnacle of a fantastic season, the ASUN champs would hear their name called in the last region announced.

The announcement via a Golf Network feed revealed that the Bisons will travel to Westfield, Indiana, for their NCAA regionals debut.

A crowd of about 30 faithful supporters and the team rejoiced as they received their reward for a season of excellence.

The magnificent seven finished in first place in five different invitationals, including their first-ever ASUN championship in Owens Crossroads, Alabama, playing confidently throughout the season.

Along with the team’s success, individuals also garnered recognition. The efforts of O’Brien earned her ASUN Coach of the Year, while Mary Kate Smith took home ASUN Women’s Golfer of the Year.

Sophomore Lauren Thompson and grad student Siarra Stout also received nods for Second Team All-Conference in the ASUN.

Now, the team will turn their focus to the Westfield Regional at The Club at Chatham Hills on May 8-10.

If they can make the top five of the twelve qualifiers, they will advance to the NCAA finals on May 19-24 at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona.
