Lipscomb Basketball claims ASUN Regular Season Title with 78-60 win over Central Arkansas

Lipscomb defeated Central Arkansas 78-60 to secure the 2025 ASUN Regular Season Championship, earning the No. 1 seed in the conference tournament.

This marks the program’s fourth regular-season title and gives the Bisons home-court advantage throughout the tournament. With the regular season behind them, their focus now shifts to earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018.

The Bisons will face the winners of Central Ark and Stetson on Monday March 3rd.

Jacob Ognacevic led the way with a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds. JO reflected on the game with ESPN plus’s Patton Cook.

“I mean, they had a great push in the second half. I mean, they’re a tough team, they’re a resilient team, and we knew they weren’t going to go away. They had a great second half, but we showed our maturity, and we blew it open at the second half of the second half.”

The Bears hung around cutting the Bison lead 46-43 early in the second half. That was all the Bears could handle.

Lipscomb’s Charlie Williams was the hero. Exploding with 15 points, shooting 6-8 from the field and 3-4 from beyond the arc.

Head Coach Lennie Acuff had this to say to ESPN plus’s Patton Cook about Charlie.

“I am so proud of Charlie. I mean, he was incredible in the second half. I don’t know what he had in the second half. I know he didn’t take a shot in the first half, and he was incredible.”

The final game of the regular season was a special one for a special team according to coach Acuff.

“I can’t tell you how happy I am, how proud I am of them.”

“They really, they’ve been selfless, they’ve been committed and, you know, so it’s really a special night for our school, for our basketball team, our athletic department. And then, you know, obviously next week’s a huge week but we’re gonna enjoy this one tonight.”

Lipscomb was -20.5-point favorite heading into the matchup. ESPN Matchup Predictor had UCA at a 3% chance of winning. The Bears lost by 18 points.

The Bisons secure the fourth ASUN Regular Season Championship in school history. It gives them the 1-seed in the conference tournament and home-court advantage throughout.

The Bisons will fight to make their first NCAA Tournament appearance since 2018.

“We’re not finished yet. We gotta stay focused for the tournament now. All our focus is on that. We can celebrate this for a little bit. We gotta stay focused and ready for the conference tournament, because we want to get to the NCAA tournament.”
