Micah Barkley serves as Herd Media's editor-in-chief and chief sports photographer. She is a senior Journalism major with a minor in German and a passion for photography. This is her fourth year on Herd Media’s staff, having started as an assistant editor, then becoming the features editor, before being promoted to editor-in-chief. Outside of writing and learning languages, she enjoys riding horses, music, basketball, swing dancing and line dancing, and spending time with her friends, among other things. She has writing experience with The Numismatist – a publication of the American Numismatic Association – and The Williamson Scene and is an aspiring author with two books currently published under the pen name Summer Ryland. When not at Lipscomb, she lives on a communal cattle ranch in the great state of Texas.

    Jalyn Holcomb starts February strong, taking three Lipscomb records, one personal record

    Lipscomb women’s basketball graduate student guard Jalyn Holcomb has had a fantastic February. Only two weeks into the month, she’s clinched two all-time records for the women’s team. Holcomb is now not only Lipscomb women’s leading three-point scorer, but also the women’s all-time Division 1 leading scorer as well. She’s made 216 three-point shots and scored 1,412 points overall. She is also now the leader in percentages for both field goal and three-point accuracy for the Lady Bisons, with a career high of 30 points in one game.     With baseball’s opening day on the horizon, both new and returning players alike look forward to the chance to put their skills into play. Coming off of a 22-34 season in 2024, the 2025 team has a lot of room to use those skills as the season begins.     Ognacevic reflects on the beginning and looks ahead to the rest of his fifth college season

    Lipscomb’s men’s basketball team has been dominating their season, currently 13-6 in all and 5-1 in ASUN conference play. Senior Forward, Jacob Ognacevic, has contributed greatly to the team’s success, coming back from a redshirted junior year to start every game for the Bisons. Despite not seeing the court due to his injury for nearly two years, Ognacevic came back ready to play, and with a more positive outlook on the game as a whole.     Lipscomb MBB takes on SEMO, a photo gallery

    December fifth was Lipscomb University’s Dead Day, and students had an opportunity to take a break from their studying to watch the Men’s Basketball Team take on Southeast Missouri State. Lipscomb won 78-60, and there were 2,123 students, parents, and fans in attendance. Lipscomb Academy students were also in attendance, adding to the energy in the arena.

    Lipscomb WSOC take home rings from the ASUN Championship

    Lipscomb’s Women’s Soccer team took their season by storm, finishing the regular season with a 14-3-4 record. They won against teams like Ole Miss and Eastern Kentucky, and beat rival Belmont 3-1 while almost six hundred students and fans watched. The Lady Bisons advanced to the ASUN championship as the third seed, taking on seventh seed Bellarmine at home on November third.     At the end of October, Lipscomb students geared up for a long-awaited week of spooky festivities – “Halloweek.” The campus’s residence halls put on different themed events, ranging from Elam Hall’s Yeehaw to High Rise’s Haunted Wednesday Nights We Eat.     Challenges have given Ognacevic patience and positivity as he anticipates fifth college season

    Men’s basketball senior forward Jacob Ognacevic has faced what many would call a tough series of challenges. A high school senior season cut short by COVID-19, health issues during a redshirt freshmen debut year at Lipscomb University and a junior year on the sidelines due to an injured knee have all attempted to get in his way. But the 6’8″ forward hasn’t let any of those challenges stop him. In fact, Ognacevic’s skills have only improved. “I’m just kind of using that [junior] year as a blessing because when it all happened and when I had the redshirt, I didn’t want to take a negative outlook on it,” Ognacevic said.…

    Lipscomb University hosted the 55th annual Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards on Tuesday, October first. The stars were out in full force – not just in person, but strewn across artists’ and attendee’s clothes. From Lauren Daigle’s signature hats to CAIN’s matching flower-bedecked outfits, everyone was dressed to the nines.     The 55th Dove Awards from the red carpet

    The Gospel Music Association’s Dove Awards filled Lipscomb’s Allen Arena with music and joy on Tuesday, October first. The theme was “Unite the Song.” Tauren Wells, hosting the Awards for his second consecutive year, said, “We are united by one God… singing one song, and though we may have different inflections and different tones, we all have one voice.” The atmosphere was electric throughout the entire event as friends reconnected, incredible artists took the stage, and awards were handed out.     From Lipscomb’s classrooms to Survivor’s shores: Sam Phalen’s story

    Many childhood dreams are never realized. For a lot of us they are outgrown, replaced by something else as we get older and discover new things. Some childhood dreams are dismissed as unrealistic or immature. But when a childhood dream does come true, it is all the sweeter for the years of wishing for it. And when that dream comes with deeper roots and meaning, its realization is powerful, as well. Sam Phalen, a 2022 sports media alumnus from Lipscomb, grew up with a dream of being on the CBS reality show Survivor.
