A Beautiful Day for baseball
This past Tuesday was Lipscomb’s A Beautiful Day, and amidst many events, the baseball team hosted Vanderbilt. The first time Vandy had come to Lipscomb for a home game in 14 years, the stands – and surrounding hills – were packed. In fact, the final official attendance number was 1,547, a record number for Lipscomb baseball. Check out some snapshots from the game, taken by Herd Media Photographer Micah Barkley.

Veteran baseball team optimistic about chemistry amid early-season struggles
This year’s baseball team has 40 players — three more than last year’s squad, which finished 36-26 and captured the ASUN Championship. It’s also facing interesting dynamics and changes. With 30 of the players at junior level or above, some might expect a top-heavy split. But the players say that’s not the case with this team, despite the 10-23 start to the season. Senior outfielder Alex Vergara has been on the Lipscomb team for the past two years and has been playing college baseball for the past five. “This is the best the chemistry has ever felt,” Vergara said. “A lot of times I think guys say that [their] team…

Lipscomb by the numbers: SEJC victories
This edition of Lipscomb by the numbers follows nine students and one professor almost 600 miles to Troy University for a weekend in February. From Feb. 23-25, nine students went with Dr. McCollum to the Southeastern Journalism Conference to compete and represent Lipscomb. They also went to find out if any fellow students from Lipscomb had won any of the prestigious Best of the South awards. It was not a disappointing weekend. Here are some of the numbers: The nine students who went included multiple different majors across the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. They included four PR majors, three Journalism and New Media majors, one Spanish major, and…

Jersey Madness: Unveiling the Inspiration Behind the Lady Bisons’ Dolly Parton Jerseys
Amidst March Madness, where 168 teams bring their A-game to the court, one jersey stands out as a light of uniqueness and inspiration. While each team reps its colors with pride, none quite match the spirit and Dolly charm of Lipscomb’s latest addition to the court. Step into the world where basketball meets country music, and discover the story behind the Lady Bisons’ one-of-a-kind Dolly Parton jerseys. Dolly Parton displayed some of her iconic fashions at Lipscomb University last semester in a unique exhibit “Dolly & the Makers” – but that wasn’t the end of Dolly’s partnerships with Lipscomb. This basketball season, the Lipscomb fashion department and women’s basketball team…

Bisons stage thrilling comeback, defeat EKU 81-67
The Lipscomb men’s basketball team faced one of its biggest games of the season Friday, March 1, against the No. 1 ranked team in the ASUN, Eastern Kentucky. The game went back and forth, but the Bisons rallied and pulled off an 81-67 victory over the EKU Colonels. The game started out in EKU’s favor, but their lead was short lived. The Bisons turned the game around, with junior guard Will Pruitt sinking a three point shot to bring the score to 5-4 in the Bisons favor. The Bisons held their lead for nearly the next ten minutes of the game. The game remained tight however, with both teams strong…

Snow completely transforms Lipscomb University
What began as a cold weekend on campus quickly turned into a winter wonderland, as almost six inches of snow covered Lipscomb University. Students left their dorm rooms for dinner Sunday night to walk out into the very beginnings of a snowfall that would not end until late Monday afternoon. The snow fell in flurries at first, gathering intensity until fat flakes were falling quickly, and at least two inches were already on the ground by around 10 p.m. It did not take long for snow festivities to start up among the student body. Many students pulled on their winter coats and hats and headed out into the snow to…

Lipscomb baseball documentary wins prestigious Murrow Award
The eighteen minute and thirty-seven second video documentary captured more than just the story of the iconic Nashville Sounds’ scoreboard — it captured the cherished memories of players, coaches, and the people of Nashville. The Grand Ole Guitar is more than just any old scoreboard. As interviewee and former Sounds pitcher R.A. Dickey said in the video, “in my mind it’s the Nashville landmark. If I could put in my backyard, I would try, that’s how much I think it means to this city.” The Lipscomb University School of Communication team poured hundreds of hours into the video documentary project. The proposal for the video had been selected through a…

Jelldrik Dallmann appreciates the rewards from this year’s championship soccer season
Months ago, before the Lipscomb men’s soccer team played in the ASUN conference championship final, senior forward Jelldrik Dallmann of Kuhstedt, Germany, mentioned that his dream was to win a championship ring – and had been since he’d come to the United States. The Bisons went on to do just that – win the final game, take the title of ASUN champions and win their rings. On top of all of that, Dallmann was named the ASUN Player of the Year for the 2022 season. Once the championship rings made their way to Lipscomb’s campus, the team held a ceremony. That tangible reward was new to Dallmann. “They don’t have…

Three amazing adventure books for you to delve into
Republished from Barkley’s Book Recs, March 9, 2023. Adventure — fast-paced action, challenges, quests, battles and heroes. Quite literally… adventures. I love adventure novels because they keep you invested the entire way with well-crafted stories and great characters. Plus, it’s hard to leave mid-adventure because you want to learn how it ends. Adventure novels can fall into or overlap several other genres, so some of these could also be considered “members” of other genres. But I’ll be highlighting them here. Six of Crows duology by Leigh Bardugo I know I’ve already raved about Leigh Bardugo (see my fantasy books post where I talked about her trilogy Shadow and Bone), but I guess here…
