Lipscomb student highlights women’s impact on the Appalachian Soundscapes
A Lipscomb Senior is shining a new spotlight on some musicians who don’t often get noticed. The women in Appalachian music! Georgia Leonard, a senior American Studies major from Mt. Airy, MD, presented her research on April 11, 2024, as part of the annual Student Scholars Symposium. Her senior thesis titled “She’s An Eagle When She Flies: The Lives and Legacies of Women in Appalachian Music During the 20th Century” discussed four women who changed the music industry forever. “I have always had this love for Appalachia,” Leonard said. Lipscomb University captured this influence by curating the exhibit “Dolly Parton and The Makers: My Life in Rhinestones.” Students at the university contributed to various aspects of the exhibit, ensuring its overall success. Bisons Weekend to feature camaraderie, connection
Lipscomb University will host Bisons Weekend, a rebrand of Homecoming and Parents Weekend, November 11 and 12. One of the weekend’s highlights is Bisons Weekend Parade, which will feature students, faculty and staff across campus. All are welcome to watch the parade from wherever they choose. Activities for current students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community will be available. These include Bisons athletic events, a 5K run, and a special chapel service.
