Night Market fills Bison Square with fashion

On Sept. 29, Lipscomb’s fashion department took over the square for the Fashion Night Market. Lipscomb fashion students came together to sell work they created, and their peers got to shop.

Highlights of the night included free Baja Burrito and s’mores, live music from different Lipscomb students and bands and live portrait drawings, Three main student vendor setups featured clothing, shoes, jewelry and more.

Before the event took place, students involved in the project worked together for weeks prior to the big event. One of the student vendors, Jennifer Bautista, said, “We’ve been working on it for about two to three weeks and we have meetings every Thursday.”

When asked about her personal connection with fashion at Lipscomb, Bautista explained that relationships with other designers and students are important. “Fashion is basically a community, and you get to be creative and see your own work come to life,” Bautista said.

Each vendor at the night market featured pieces they created or wanted to sell from their personal collections. Two vendors at the market, Elsa Netach and Molly Broome, personalized their stand with handmade gloves, clothing, shoes, and art.

Once the Night Market kicked off at 6 p.m., students were seen enjoying the free food, speaking with vendors about their different products and creations, and sitting by the fountain listening to live music.

Junior Victoria McClure was one of many non-fashion majors who came to the event. “I think that this is really cool to see my friends making things and being a part of the night market. It is honestly just a super vibrant atmosphere to be in!” said McClure.

Fashion might have been the focal point of the Night Market, but it wasn’t the only art present. Three different Lipscomb student musicians accompanied the vendors with their creative music. Kait and Gwendellyn opened, and Caroline Tebbs headlined the event with her full band. Each artist showed off their musical talent with both original songs and covers throughout the night.
