Bisons shut out EKU 2-0 ASUN opener
Lipscomb women’s soccer secured a 2-0 shutout victory over Eastern Kentucky University on Sept. 18 in their ASUN conference opener.
The win at the Lipscomb Soccer Complex was fueled by a dominant performance from junior midfielder Bella Carapazza, who scored a goal in each half. The Bisons’ defense held strong all night, not allowing a single goal.
“It’s nothing new I saw tonight. It’s the player she’s been throughout her career,” said Lipscomb Head Coach Kevin O’Brien. “The fact that she scored two coming off an injury in the home opener against a really talented EKU team is just really impressive.”
The Bisons took an early lead when Carapazza scored in the 12th minute, assisted by sophomore midfielder Tatum Ahlemeyer. The Colonels settled into their momentum, performance from their defenders and midfielders tipping the scales in their favor, but sophomore goalkeeper Kaïna Cesar’s four saves kept Lipscomb ahead.
Carapazza found the back of the net agin just two minutes into the second half, solidifying the lead. The goal, assisted by freshman forward Skylar Cole, took the wind out of Eastern Kentucky’s sails and allowed the Bisons to control the rest of the game.
“I’m always happy getting results, but my teammates set me up and helped me for success,” said Carapazza. “I got to give credit to them. I’m just happy that we got the results in the opening game.”
The Bisons will look to build on their momentum when they host Bellarmine on Sunday, Sept. 21.
