Lipscomb by the numbers: SEJC victories
This edition of Lipscomb by the numbers follows nine students and one professor almost 600 miles to Troy University for a weekend in February.
From Feb. 23-25, nine students went with Dr. McCollum to the Southeastern Journalism Conference to compete and represent Lipscomb. They also went to find out if any fellow students from Lipscomb had won any of the prestigious Best of the South awards. It was not a disappointing weekend.
Here are some of the numbers:
The nine students who went included multiple different majors across the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. They included four PR majors, three Journalism and New Media majors, one Spanish major, and one University Studies major.
In on-site competitions, students Bekah Haralson, Makenna Overweg, and Madison Schomer created a team and took first place in Public Relations. Isaiah Davis competed in two photography competitions, placing first in Sports Photography and third in Feature Photography.
In the Best of the South award, Lipscomb also had some fantastic numbers.
Brandon Bigsby won not only second place as the South’s Best TV Feature Writer, but he also won third place for the Best TV Journalist. Hannah Cron placed second for Best Arts & Entertainment Writer, and Joey Dwyer placed fifth in the Best Sports Writer category. Kylie Kissler also placed, winning fifth for the Best Special Event Reporter/Editor.
The students were not the only ones to place in the Best of the South Awards however. Herd Media also placed, winning second place for the Best College Website in the South.
It definitely was not a disappointing weekend.
