Lipscomb.bad.parking returns to Instagram

Comedic student-led university Instagram accounts are a staple on many college campuses, and Lipscomb University is no exception to that rule.

Over the years, Lipscomb has had many such accounts, all varying in topic but all bringing laughter to Lipscomb students. These accounts include Lipscomb Crushes, Lipscomb Bananas, Lipscomb Fizz, and the fairly infamous Lipscomb Quotes. The accounts are all run by students, and live and die as the students graduate and leave. However, they are often taken up again and rebooted by students that follow them.

One such account has recently been revived – the “Lipscomb.bad.parking” account. Students around campus take photos of cars and trucks that park poorly and direct message them to the account, who then posts them with amusing captions.

The account, created on Sept. 23, has already rapidly grown in popularity. Now with 24 posts, the account boasts over 610 followers, though its creator remains anonymous.

Aidan Watson, a senior at Lipscomb, said he loves the account. It randomly popped up on his suggested-followers one night, and now it’s one of his favorite campus accounts.

“The moment I saw it I fell in love,” he said with a laugh.

Watson is an RA on campus, and said that the account is one of the things that keeps him entertained while he’s on lobby duty.

“There are just so many people who are bad at parking here, it’s insane,” Watson said. “But more than that, there’s one car that keeps popping up on the account. It has a big Green Bay Packers sticker across the back windshield and I know exactly whose car it is, which I will not say, and I keep seeing it… It just sends me,” he laughed.

Though Watson doesn’t have a car on campus himself, he said Lipscomb.bad.parking’s existence would definitely make him pay more attention to his parking job if he did. “[The account] makes people think a little more about their parking jobs,” he said. “Especially when people park in two spots and we have a parking problem on campus anyway.”

However, since he doesn’t have a car, he added, “I get to laugh at everyone [else’s parking] and suffer no consequences, it’s great.”

Compared to the accounts that have existed over the course of his time at Lipscomb, Watson said that this one is his favorite. “Lipscomb.bad.parking is fun,” he said. “It’s just genuinely harmless… and it’s so funny.”

“I wish I knew who ran it,” he added. Though there is speculation around who runs all of the anonymous student-created campus Instagram accounts, not many know who runs Lipscomb.bad.parking. For now, students can only guess, while they keep sending in photos of bad campus parking jobs.
