Jalyn Holcomb starts February strong, takes three Lipscomb records, one personal record
Lipscomb women’s basketball graduate student guard Jalyn Holcomb has had a fantastic February. Only two weeks into the month, she’s clinched two all-time records for the women’s team.
Holcomb is now not only Lipscomb women’s leading three-point scorer, but also the women’s all-time Division 1 leading scorer as well. She’s made 216 three-point shots and scored 1,412 points overall. She is also now the leader in percentages for both field goal and three-point accuracy for the Lady Bisons, with a career high of 30 points in one game.
The 5’9″ guard clinched her first record against West Georgia on Feb. 5. She made a three-point shot with 4:11 left in the game’s second quarter to hit her 208 three-point shot. This tied her with Anna Bowers, who played for the Bisons from 2009 to 2012. Two more three-pointers that night against West Georgia gave Holcomb the record. She has scored 15 more three-pointers since that game, taking her current total to 225.

While playing against Bellarmine just a little more than a week later, on the 13, Holcomb took her second record. She scored 12 points against the Knights, passing up previous record-holder Jenna Bartsokas and taking the women’s all-time scoring record with 1,412 points. Holcomb averages around 10 points a game, so her final total at the end of post-season play will set the bar for future women’s basketball players to chase.
But Holcomb wasn’t done. The women’s basketball team’s next game was against Queens on Saturday. It was a “pink game,” where the Lady Bisons broke out their special, custom Lipscomb-Dolly Parton jerseys. There, Holcomb set two more records, both personal. She scored 30 points against the Royals, setting a personal high for in-game points made and blowing her average of 10 points a game out of the water.

On top of that, she also went 9-for-10 in field goals and three-pointers made, setting the highest ever percentage for field goal and three-point accuracy in the Lady Bisons’ history. She shot 90% in both field goals and three-pointers, and 60% in free throws against the Royals. The night took her total points to 1,442.
The women’s basketball team’s next game is on Thursday, when it will take on North Alabama on the road.
