Students elect new SGA leadership

Today, Lipscomb students elected the newest Student Government Association executive officers.

Following Monday’s candidate forum, SGA encouraged students to vote for the positions of executive president, vice president, secretary and treasurer. The positions of president and vice president were uncontested, while three students ran for secretary and two for treasurer.

Rachel Ferguson, an early childhood education major, ran unopposed for SGA president. She has served on SGA since her freshman year and has served as vice president since October, 2025. Ferguson aims to strengthen long-running Lipscomb traditions, such as Questweek, and expand SGA event planning and student organization support.

Like Ferguson, Katie McGinnis ran unopposed for the seat of vice president. Currently serving in the Freshman Leadership Council and a new member of Phi Sigma, McGinnis has dedicated herself to student life throughout her first year. She hopes to serve as a bridge between the student body and SGA in her role as vice president.

Freshman marketing major Oscar Pena ran against three other students for the role of secretary. The Tennessee native tabled today outside of the student center for his campaign, offering popsicles. He currently serves as a freshman senator and will be a member of next semester’s Quest Team.  Pena highlighted the theme of belonging in his campaign, drawing from his experience as a first-generation college student.

Abel Tucker won against one other candidate for the position of treasurer. A double major in business marketing and political science, the Missouri native serves as vice president for the Freshman Leadership Council.

Tomorrow, SGA will hold elections for class officers and release the list for senator-at-large candidates. April 9, SGA will hold the elections for the senator-at-large candidates.
