Men’s basketball beats FGCU to remain undefeated at home

Lipscomb men’s basketball faced off against Florida Gulf Coast University on Friday, January 23, beating the FGCU Eagles 86-71.

Throughout the first half of the game, the Bisons drained 3-pointer after 3-pointer. In fact, of the 37 points the Bisons made by the close of the first half, 36 of them had come from 3-point shots.

Lipscomb freshman forward Or Ashkenazi started things off for the Bisons with two 3-pointers in a row. The Eagles would manage to take the lead in the beginning of the first half, but the Bisons didn’t let them keep it for long. After 13 made 3-pointers and one made free throw, the Bisons were leading the Eagles 37-30 by the close of the first.

Coming into the second, the Bisons continued to stretch their lead. Freshman forward Kennedy Okpara and graduate student forward Grant Asman brought energy to Allen Arena, both dunking on the Eagles.

The second half closed out, 86-71, taking the Bisons to 11-0 at home and 7-1 in the ASUN. The Bisons shot 60% for 3-pointers in the first half, and 47.06% in the second, alongside 50% for field goals in the second half.

The men’s next home game will be on Saturday, February 7, at 4 in the afternoon. It will be the NAIA Championship Reunion game, and the Bisons will take on the Central Arkansas Bears.
