The Lady Bisons advanced to the ASUN championship as the third seed, taking on seventh seed Bellarmine at home on November third. The game was a close one, regulation ending with the score tied at 1-1 and entering overtime. Neither team scored during the first overtime period, and then Lipscomb midfielder Hailey Johnson scored a goal in the second overtime period. The goal ended the sudden death period, and the Lady Bisons erupted in celebration, racing across the field to hug one another. The team raced to the championship standing chart, screaming and cheering as they moved Lipscomb’s marker on the board from the quarterfinals to the semifinals.
Then they were off to Fort Meyers, Florida, to face off against the second seeded Central Arkansas in the ASUN Championship semifinals. The Bears were the only ASUN team the Bisons lost to during their season, and the only team of eleven to play the Bisons on their home field and beat them there. The Lady Bisons turned the tables on the Bears during the semifinal game. While the Bisons may have lost to the Bears 2-3 during their regular season, they thoroughly swept the Bears in the semifinals, beating them a solid 7-0 on November seventh.
The ASUN Championship finals game was on November tenth at one, and Lipscomb was up against the fifth seed Eastern Kentucky Colonels. Seven minutes into the game, Lipscomb Freshman Midfielder Tatum Alhemeyer scored the first goal of the game. It would prove to be the only goal of the game, as both teams tried and failed to score in the remaining 73 minutes of the game. The Colonels made six shots during the game, with four of them on goal. The Bisons meanwhile made 26 shots, nine of which were on goal. The game ended with the final score 1-0 for the Bisons, and the girls took home the ASUN Championship Trophy to much celebration.
The NCAA Selection Show took place on November 11th, and the Women’s Soccer team gathered in the Hall of Fame Room to learn where they would place in the tournament. Their first game in The Dance will be against Vanderbilt on Friday the 15th, at seven pm. Vanderbilt is the eighth seed in the Tallahassee Region and will host the Lady Bisons at the Vanderbilt Soccer Complex. The winner will travel to face off against the winner of the first seeded Florida State University and Samford game.
